Ruger 10/22 Charger optics suggestion?
« on: August 20, 2012, 08:28:20 AM »
Hi all.  I have a Ruger 10/22 charger and want to know if anybody else has one and which optics they are using.  I like the charger mostly because of its size.  I can easily pack it for grouse and little critters without having to carry another rifle in the rig.  Its compact size makes it an easy fit in the truck cab, but I don't like the scope I have on it.  I put a 4x Leupold pistol scope on but I have to hold it out there too far and it seems that a rifle scope might have been a better option.  I don't know maybe it needs a lower power scope or red dot...something, was just wondering if anybody else has one and if they have a good optics suggestion for me.  Also if anyone has a holster suggestion or where to get one that would be helpful too.

Its kind of a goofy sized gun, but I have a regular cab pickup and its sure been handy having that charger stuffed behind the seat out deer/elk hunting with big game rifles in the cab already.  I'm not shooting it very far, so that 4x is too much, but a pistol scope on that gun doesn't feel right.  To me it feels like it should be held a lot closer to your face.  I don't know, just looking for suggestions.

A red dot would be perfect out to 50 yards for grouse pretty easy.  I would go that route.  Of course with the bipod a good 2X scope wouldn't be bad either.  It just depends on how well you like red dot scopes.  Some people like'em, some don't.
