Roads in little naches?
« on: August 23, 2012, 09:15:00 AM »
I just want to clarrify something. I am hunting 346 this year, have a Yakima county sherriff rec map. It lists it as an active green dot road area. So are all the roads drawn and labeled considered to be open to travel?  Anyone else use that map or know the answer? I know some people assume but I don't want to.  Thanks for any help

green dot roads are marked ...but not all roads shown on maps are green dot you may wish to cross reference with the DNR green dot maps (usually free at dnr office) and then cross reference again boots on location. :dunno:

No green dot roads in 346.

Does that map show what roads are open for vehicle travel?

I'm just looking for a map or resource to say which you can drive by truck or atv and which you can't. I've heard stories frOm guys getting tickets but they didn't know the road was closed. You can't rely on culverts, signs or gates anymore.

You can drive on any road up there they are marked with numbers, go to the ranger station they have a map. I have never had any trouble driving around up there. Also LC Maps.

Don't worry about which gate is open or not.... Yakima boys have their rigs up there by the end of August and block off any access except for walkins. Of Course their trucks, quads, etc, happen to make it inside and up and down the hill four times a day.  Just saying, if you scouted it, by the time you drop in to hunt, somebody will drive in or stomp in right at primo hunt times.  They probably  have a Home owners association fee for "friends" at second gate.  One tag - twenty hunters..hmmm
Hunting, Basketball, Cars.... not much more for me to talk about.

If you're up there, please don't be an a-hole.  These guys are just trying to do their jobs - the guys that got screwed by this are just the guys working on the road and not FS employees...

So does anyone know if the temporary closure is in effect up to the 10th of September where you can only get in at noon and come out after 5 during the weekdays?  Would be nice if they could do this construction after the early archery season as this will mess things up for access easy access.

The sheriff map is the best one out there. Its the one they will be looking at for enforcement.

It dont show much in the green dot areas to the east but it the best road map for the roads in the NF. The only roads closed in teh NF are marked in red on the map (those are permanent closed roads), any other closed road will be posted.

And dont go by weather there is a road number or not. Some roads have numbers and are still closed (back hoed off) other roads dont have the numbers on them and are still opened.

I have found the Sheriff Recreation map to be better then the FS maps.  :twocents:

Has anyone petitioned the ranger district to keep them from a complete closer right during the prime part of the early archery elk?  Why could they not wait another week until the close of the season?  Sound like they planned it perfectly to complete try and close hunters out??
