« on: August 23, 2012, 03:14:48 PM »
My buddy is driving and said he found a spot he wants to check out so I was all for it. I think we will be in the skykomish area and will be hiking in on the am. I will keep updates going if I have service.

btw how do I upload pics from my I phone on here?

From the phone typically the same way....click on "attach" and you should be able to select. Good luck out there.

Had no service where we headed to. Hiked a total of around 12 miles saw some old peeled trees but the berrys were not ripe where we hiked into.

Even the slopes with Southern exposure?

Ya they were still green, might have just not gotten enough light in that area or it might have had a heavy snow pack on it

So me and my buddy made plans to head out on Thursday night near wherever we decided to hunt so we could wake up and hike in the next morning. So he says that he has picked a place that is secluded and should be well off the beaten path. I am not worried about it and am happy just to go out in the woods.
We end up getting to the spot that he had picked and it was a parking lot for three trail heads  :chuckle: so we set up camp down the road a ways and about a half hour later a Subaru stationwagon rolled in the the trail head so I couldn't help but give my buddy a hard time about how secluded and off the beaten path.
We woke up at 430 to pack up camp and head out, we hit the trail at 5.
I am not sure what it was but I was feeling really nautious about five minutes into the hike and ended up puking a bunch and my buddy offered for us to just head back and figure out something else, I did not want to wuss out so we carried on in the dark with headlamps.
After about three hours we went four miles to where we had to start heading up in altitude on some switchbacks, two and a half hours later we have gone about two miles further and we are exhausted and not seeing any ripe berrys at all but we spent about an hour and a half scanning the meadows. We were soaked from hiking and started getting cold so we knew that we needed to start heading back soon before we got too cold, we ate lunch and headed back.
We did not see any game animals at all on the trip but I still had a good time getting out and seeing a new place.

Man It sucks getting sick! Sorry about not seeing anything. Just a note, there are no bears around Hwy2. They are all up around Hwy 20 or down at I90.  :chuckle:  Stick with it, you'll have success eventually. At least that's what I keep telling myself!  :yike:

I had thought about checking out highway 20 but the harvest report was kinda low in that area unless I saw it wrong. I figure if I spend enough time out in the woods that I will eventually see one. Even a blind man can find things sometime.

Yup, even a blind squirrel finds the occasional nut!  :chuckle: I finally got out for about a 2 mile hike yesterday. My ankle was still a little sore, but surprisingly not bad. I went into an area I was in in the spring. I had seen some serious scat in the spring and it appears that whatever made it is still living in the area. I can't wait to get back out there and snoop around some more. It takes a big animal to dump a load that size. About the size of an adult rabbit! :yike:
