Got my biggest one yet tonight....
« on: August 23, 2012, 10:24:11 PM »
:(  So I've been shooting my bow to get ready for my upcoming moose trip and stuck a used broadhead on today.  Tweny yards, right in the group with my target arrows, thirty yards, first one a bit high, second into the 1 1/2 inch bulls eye.  Next shot, I noticed the arrow spiral a little so I checked the blades.  One was a litlle rough but another was bent a bit.  I replaced that one blade and went to 40 yards.  I have to stand on a pair of rocks when the boat is in the driveway to be able to shoot over my compost bin.  Draw the bow, aim, release... bang, thwup, arrow is arcing over the driveway into the woods.  WTF?

I realized I must have been just clearing the compost bin with my target tips and the broadhead blade stuck down just low enough so I clipped the bin (red line with circle around it) causing my arrow to veer to the left and go through the back canopy window of the boat (Y with red circle), where the fletch caught the plastic whipping the arrow to the right and up and out through the top of the canopy (leaving a six inch tear).  To add insult to injury, I still haven't been able to find the arrow in the salal (it should be sticking straight up but the salal is up to 6' tall in that area).

Bleh, I need to rethink my range.....

:yike: That sucks. Atleast you did it at the range and not on a moose  :dunno:

Yeah, glad I could make someone smile...   :tung:

At least it didn't go through the windshield.  It would have been awesome if it had ricocheted off the bin, the side of the boat, and hit the target.

Nice! I shot through a buddy's garage one time when my release went off at half draw. Its the only time it has ever happened to me

As I was reading along and following the visuals I half expected "and the arrow still found it's way to the target" as the punchline.  :chuckle:

You should have called the shot.  Off the compost pile, through the plastic boat wall, out the canopy .... nothing but net!!  :chuckle:

Nice, thanks for the laugh! :chuckle:

Here's one to make you laugh....My boys 14 & 15 were out shooting, the 15 year old is very good, 14 struggles at times....they were shooting at the 3d target in front of the main target, 3 arrows each. Of course the older ones arrows are all in the kill zone, the 14 year old had 1 that went high and was stuck in the main target. The older one starts to give the the younger one crap about how he needs to practice more etc, typical brotherly love. He then pulls out his brothers but he leaves his arrows in the 3d target for his younger brother to admire, (nice guy that he is)....he then goes to pull the one arrow that went high out of the main target. He gives the arrow a big yank and his elbow smacks the 3d deer in the head and it falls over breaking his arrows..... :chuckle:....I guess that KARMA for you....

That reminds me of a buddy from Nebraska who was shooting his bow with his brother when a feral cat walked into the adjacent planted wheatfield.  His brother bet him $50 he couldn't hit the cat.  Sooo ... he grossly underestimated the range, his arrow hit the ground half way to the cat ...
skipped ...
hit the ground 3/4 of the way to the cat ...
skipped ...
and center-punched the cat.

They paced it off at 160 yards.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Yeah, yeah, Weathergirl can't figure out why I'm not more POed about it.  Just another excuse to build a hard top for the boat.

And, I'll have the last laugh from my tent in the YUKON in two weeks... life is mostly good!   :chuckle:
