leupold cds problems
« on: August 24, 2012, 03:24:19 PM »
Having problems with my new cds scope. Shot it earlier this month, 100yd 0 then turned the dial to 300 and not even on paper? Re shot today with a new dial and same thing. Something is wrong with the scope, too bad now i have to send it into leupold and wont get one back until after my WY deer/antelope hunt. I am not sure success others have had with this scope, but I think that I can get as close by calculating numbers in a regular reticle. Any recommendations before I send it in, or any similar problems?

You've probably already tried this, but did you use the MOA dial (supplied by Leupold) to zero your firearm and then remove it to install the CDS dial set at 100 yds?

I have two CDS scopes.  I have had great luck with mine.

A quick question first.  When you cranked it up to 300 and you were not sure where it went, did you put it back to 100 and shoot it at 100 again to see if it tracked back to the same spot?

Another thing i would recommend would be to put your gun in a vise/rest and put 1" grid chart at 100 yards and check if you are getting an 1" at 100 yards for every 4 clicks. Go ahead and run it up to the 300 yard mark while watching through the scope to make sure it is still moving.

Always check your mounts and rings as well make sure they are tight.  Leupold can fix a scope and have it back to you in about a week.

ya once shot at 300 shot again at 100 on 100 and was good. It was not grouping for sh*&  :dunno: Shooing the same bullets etc, i have no idea what is going on. I called leupold and they said about 4 weeks turn around  :'( which would mean i would NOT have it before my WY trip OCT. 1 I will send it in this next week and call and pray they fix it or send me a new scope. If it is broke i might add money and get a mark 4

Yeah...buy Nightforce or US Optics.
For the life of me, I can't understand this Leupold obsession.
I've never heard of an optics company with so many satisfied customers with failed products.
It's like the Toyota Koolaid.
My Burris and Nikon products just work perfectly...I understand they have lifetime replacement warranty, too...But I wouldn't know anything about that.

how many clicks is it between 100 and 300 on your turret? you could almost shoot 300 with a 100 yard zero and be on paper with most calibers. maybe 6-8 inches low. 6 inches low would only be 8 clicks with a .25 moa adjustment.  :dunno:

Wouldn't that be 24 clicks@ 1/4" adjustments to move 6"?   :dunno:

Leupold does make a quality product overall and is affordable to alot more shooters that probably equals out to a larger amount of scopes out there than other brands, and they have been around a long time.  Scopes are mechanical and can break, fail or be just a lemon like any other assembled group of componets.

Have used them for years, no complaints.  I have looked at Nikon & Burris products and with my "getting older eyes," they are just not as clear as my Leupolds.  And Nightforce is just beyond my pay grade...

But just like everything, that is why we have variaity...like blondes, brunettes & redheads...something for everybodies tastes and pocket books!!
