muley hunt
« on: August 28, 2012, 07:38:05 AM »
I am 14 and would like to go on a mule deer hunt. I have been with my uncle for deer in Nevada but we didn't get anything :(. I have non hunting parents but they support me :). I live in the tacoma area and would like to go on a late season or spring hunt. I'm looking for someone to help me with tags and all that, but if you could go with me that would be great :)
The way my bank account is set up I have a checking account and a saving account and I have to transfer my money to my saving account and thats going to take 3 business day- Kevin hart

Good call  How would you get to the eastside? I ask because there are enough guys on here that make the trek I would bet you could hitch a ride but I would also bet they would want to at least hear it from your parents.

Check the "go hunt" for open lands north of Touchet.  :twocents: One other thing you might consider is that if you have not shot a deer yet gmu's 154 and 162 allow a youth hunter to shoot a whitetail doe on a general tag.

NE corner might not be a bad option. Haven't checked recently but usually a few units are open for youth doe and plenty of areas where you run into whiteys and mulies.

There are no guarantees but I think you would have a much better shot at finding a whitetail over in the NE corner.  There are lots of deer and the regulations are pretty generous with does/any buck for youth hunters.

Have your father call the Spokane Game Dept office at (509) 892-1001 closer to the hunt dates and they can give you a list of landowners that have called in that want some deer killed on their property.  These landowners will be helpful (especially for a youth hunter) and point you in the right direction.

Youth General Seasons
White-tailed Deer
Oct. 13-26     Unit 124     Any deer
Oct. 18-21     Units 101, 105, 108, 111, 113     Any deer
Oct. 13-21     Units 127–142, 145, 154, Deer Area 1010, and 172–178     3 pt. min. or antlerless
Oct. 18-21     Units 117, 121     4 pt. min. or antlerless
Nov. 10-19     Deer Area 1050     Any deer
Nov. 10-19     Deer Areas 1060, 1070, and 1080     Anterless only

Next year, be sure to get your license in the spring so you can put in for some special tag youth hunts as well.  My boys have drawn three youth doe tags so far and a youth moose tag this year.

Any legal deer is a good deer.  Go get 'em!
