There's plenty of Weyerhaeuser land to hunt on, by parking at a gate and walking in. If you don't want to walk, then I would suggest a different unit. Almost all of the huntable land in the Coweeman is owned by Weyerhaeuser, and of course right now, it is closed to motorized vehicles.

Plenty of access to weyerhauser land in 550 if you don't mind walking, biking or taking quads like some of the locals do (the ones that live by the gate I like to hunt anyways :bash:). Headquarters road, Ostrander road, Rose Valley road, Kalama river road to name a few.
If you find any good places to hunt in Coweeman that isn't Weyerhauser land, let me know, I haven't found it.

:yeah:  I've had the "local on a quad" ruin a couple of set ups for me in that unit . . . talk about frustrating.

We usually take their picture and let them know they are not suppose to be on a motorized vehicle.  It scares the bejeesus out of the kids we catch.   :IBCOOL:

Take pictures and get locations WEYCO security does a good job of tracking them down. Found a camp a few years ago and reported it, security had it gone the next day. I hunt the coweeman a lot and the quads and people who think they can enter any open gate gets very frustrating.

FYI, WEYCO roads are closed to all traffic, to include walk-in right now.

:bdid: This is good way to get in good with landowners where you dream of hunting.
By the way, my neighbors and I with property bordering WEYCO lands will be the "local on a quad" patrolling the edges of our land while we are hunting this weekend.
We are very aware of the closures and anyone headed up Goble Creek, Mahaffey or Zillig had better think twice, we will be watching.
Keep trash talking the locals and soon you will only remember the days you used to hunt.

 Lovely, you people sure know how to gain access to private property. I sure hope everyone here isn't a thief.
These last few posts have prompted me to post a comment on our local property owner's facebook page.

It reads as follows, enjoy.
"Hello neighbors,
FYI, all WEYCO lands are closed to ALL entry until further notice. I will be out patrolling for violators all weekend and reporting them. Chances are good that some idiots will be trespassing on our properties and sneaking around gates so keep a look out."

My "neighbors" and I pretty much own every scrap of property on the western side of the Coweeman Unit.
You might want to be careful what you say or I might sight in all my guns and tear up some mud on my quad along my property line all archery season.

Well thank you, definitely not what I expected. I was looking for a good place to share stories and experience and I ran into this crap. Got me a little heated.

Wow scout sniper... Welcome aboard. Not trashing locals. But sure isn't the out of towers that are riding there quads in behind closed gates from trails leading into the tree farm from private property.
Late season muzzy last year, guy on quad comes blowing around a corner on his quad with a modern fire arm on the quad, about ran us over and then took off on a trail. Very quickly. This was in a no motorized access area. That is the problem. Some of the locals think that they don't have to follow the rules because there property is adjacent to the tree farm.

I completely agree. The rules are for everyone.

I hunt 550, it is close to the house. I know it well, I don't trespass and I don't mess with others property. And I like it if others do the same. Late season muzzy has become a joke in the past few years.

Yup, I've never seen anyone unload any quads at or near any of the gates I hunt, I HAVE watched quads come and go from houses close to the gates I hunt, especially RV and Ostrander. Just take pictures and make a phone call now.

Quads aren't allowed even when the gates are open, only highway legal vehicles are allowed. If we know one of us is crashing the gates and riding up there, we try and put a stop to it.

Glad to hear that, don't know why anyone would get upset about my posts unless they were the ones riding behind gates. Wasn't pointing fingers at everyone who lives near a gate, only those who choose to not follow the rules that most of us here do. :twocents:

Perhaps I read it with the wrong mindset, or just plain misunderstood.
