Winston Unit question.
« on: August 28, 2012, 09:23:59 PM »
Just a question for access into the winston unit, can you get into it off the Kosmos Rd, cross the fishing bridge and hang a right? will that take you into the winston or no? If not, what is another entry point, looking for a backup in case my area doesnt open the woods back up. any other suggestions for a decent back up plan are appreciated. im prayin for rain.

All Port Blakely Timberlands Closed Due to Extreme Fire Danger

8/15/2012 - Port Blakely Tree Farms’ Forests Closed Until Further Notice

Prolonged hot and dry weather conditions coupled with forecasted lightning in the foothills of the Cascades raised the risk of forest fires in the region. Until further notice, PORT BLAKELY TREE FARMS forestland in Washington and Oregon is closed to ALL public access. This closure applies to foot, horse, motorized and any other form of access.

While we regret any inconvenience this may cause to recreational users, our decision to prohibit access reflects our priorities: safety and the protection of our forests. Port Blakely employees and security officials are monitoring the weather conditions and unauthorized access.

This closure to all traffic is temporary. Regular allowable access will be permitted once the risk of forest fires decreases and forest conditions are considered safe.

Does anyone know if Pt. Blakely has shut down the USFS access to the Goat Crk Trail??  Every time that happens, the head of the Mt. St. Helens Monument gets a call from me to get a proper easement to PUBLIC LAND.

as far as i know all port blakely land and roads are closed to any public access. and the 25 rd is closed at woods creek for construction. i dont know of any other way up to the st helens monument. maybe you can go up the 23 and then cut back across or come in from the backside?

There's access from Winston/Salmon Creek rd. Heading east just after you cross Mayfield lake, first right that's not a driveway. The 1000 line heads east & 3000-Camp Nine rd heads east.  They're only makes by spray on trees no actual signs.

Make sure you call Weyco before heading out. Their number is 866-636-6531 and as of yesterday, it was closed to all motorized public access, except along the public access corridors. These are the 4100 Road, 4200 Road, 1900 Road and 8050 road.  Dont leave these roads otherwise you may get a ticket. Walk in, mountain bike and horseback is the only access open on Weyco land. Good luck to all you arrow flingers this weekend!

Maybe tack up a paper plate with huntwa written on it.  Maybe get someone to drop by and shoot the bull.

There should be an unwritten rule adopted by hunters, no scouting or calling a week before the opener :chuckle: It would be more like an ambush instead of screaming over a bullhorn IT'S HUNTING SEASON :twocents:

BTW, if you don't have your calling down by season practicing at the campground isn't going to help...ha ha
