talking and grouping in klickitat county ?
« on: August 29, 2012, 04:19:35 AM »
I've been watching a group of 7 cows for the last month day in day out which grew into 15 or more in the last couple days, they are becoming real vocal but still no bulls or bugles. So I guess my question is has anyone heard any bugles in lower elevations in my area and is this typical for a heard to grow this time of year with no bulls?

Once the cows come into season, any bull within smelling distance will be checking them out. I know the elk are spread out in that country but the bulls will be trolling around to find hot cows. I'd say keep an eye on the cows....the bulls will come.

Yeah that. If the cows are in area that they feel safe in and have food water and cover then they are not going to go anywhere unless a person or predator pushes them. Starting about now and into the first couple weeks of September those bulls are gonna be cruising looking for hot cows. If a bull comes across 15 cows he is gonna stay put and hang out with them. Keep watching them from a distance so you don't disturb them and I bet a paycheck within the next week or so (definately by opening day of archery) a bull will pop up.

:IBCOOL:  thanks, they are some happy cows where they're at so hopefully the bulls come find them and not the other way around... The countdown begins.

A solo cow will wander looking for a herd. But a group of cows are not ever going to wander around looking for bulls. It's like people. At a beach guys wander around cruising for girls. Girls sit tight tanning themselves and let the boys come to them.

Bulls around here travel so much just looking for cows.

I hope you are aware of the closers that have been placed effecting a ton of the public ground. wpt and many others are now closed down. They are already giving tickets out and there is going to be a ton of people that don't know about it. MAKE SURE YOUR AREA IS NOT ONE. The tickets are close to 500.00 and I know a guy that just got one as well. Almost all the walk in hunting areas like on 97 are closed now. This is no joke either 100% honest.

Carp, any word on how long these closures are going to last? I noticed that almost all of the private timberlands East of Trout Lake were posted a couple of weeks ago. Is that still the case?

Everything is still closed from like 97 to glenwood :yike: No word on how long it will stay closed. I am guessing until it is wet enough for the owners to feel safe. They are very worried about fire. I know 100% fact any one found on the timber ground that is closed will get a ticket. The guy I know way 80 yards from his house just walking the other day and got it. The owners are allowing 0 breaks or excusses. There is going to be a pile of people show up from all over and not know it is closed until they get there tickets handed to them.

I talked to a officer the other day about it and talked to a few friends. It was in the paper a week or 2 ago here.

No bulls yet and I do have access to this land :chuckle: the local timber is almost all closed but hopefully I get a shot at a nice velvet 3 I spotted today... But seriously almost everything is closed down over here not worth it unless your local and have connections. Good luck everyone! I know what I will be dreaming about if I can sleep tonight.
