Whitman County birds

My father and I have been hunting down by Tekoa for so many years now that the lack of birds is now just the normal.  We used to limit out real often but now we are lucky to get 3 rosters between the two of us hunting all day long.  With this in mind how are the bird numbers looking down that way?  Maybe we should find a new area but my dad is older now and we need some easier hunting.  Any ideas from anyone out there?

Welcome to Washington pheasant hunting. There is no magical pheasant area left. You can find pocket concentrations of birds, usually on private property, but the days of "good" consistent pheasant hunting are gone in this state imo

I grew up in Tekoa my whole life and I have never seen the bird numbers down like they are now.   With the wet, long springs and tall grass it is starting to make the pheasant hunting near impossible for the dogs and hunters.  Just out of curiosity, who’s private property do you hunt around there?  I only ask because I know probably 98% of the landowners around there and it's always interesting to see who letting who hunt.  Good luck out there!!!

There are still good numbers of birds, along the Palouse River but access is limited and it's pretty tough hunting.

We will really need a couple of dry springs with good hatch numbers before the numbers will be back where they once were

We have hunted primarly Gumms land.  But access has changed a bunch.  It has been very discouraging to not have good bird numbers.

I will tell them!  I have seen lots of Deer down there over the years but never hunted for Deer there.  Is it any good?

Same problem near the river (both sides)  Pheasant numbers are way down.  Last year saw lots of roosters and hens but not very many chicks.  This year you are hard pressed to find a pheasant at all.  Did see some clutches make it though. 

Have seen quite a few quail chicks this year.  Keeping my fingers crossed. 

Have only seen one pair of chukar so far.  They didn't have any chicks.  I normally see 2 or 3 pairs with a few chicks.

The deer hunting there is hit or miss.  Most of the time it is pretty slow, although we've scored a few times.
