Going to west of Goldendale
« on: August 31, 2012, 06:49:45 AM »
For a scout next weekend for a change of pace deer hunt. I hinted there 40+ years ago and remember good times and a few deer. How is the hunting there now. Anyone want to share where to start like 142 and Glenwood rd area and south.
Also will be taking a mid day look for Calli ground squirrels, anyone seen any in that area, have read there are a few.

Where are you looking at going? The Simcoes are closed to everyone right now for fear of fires.

Len, right now everything in Klickitat county is pretty much shut down do to fire danger.  Even the private timber land north of Glenwood in Yakima county is shut down.  If you do decide to come down here, make sure you dont find yourself in an area that is shut down.  If you do, you will find yourself with a pretty hefty ticket.

And just to let you know, the hunting is nowhere near what it was 40 years ago.

I was over there last week posting closure signs on our land which is International Forestry Consultants and all of Hancocks land is closed as well.  Hancock supplied the signs and on the signs they listed all land owners that were closing their lands due to extreme fire danger.  Heres the list: Hancock Forest Management, Stevenson Land Company, Broughton Lumber Co., Kreps ranch, LLC, Kreps Family, Longview Timberlands, International Forestry Consultants, Western Pacific Timber.  All properties are closed to public entry in Klickitat, Yakima and Skamania counties until further notice.  From the base of Hwy 23 through Trout Lake to Glenwood to Appleton everything was closed, the only land that I saw open was DNR.  Hopefully we'll get some rain soon and they will lift the closure.  Good luck all.  Heres a picture of a couple bucks from last week over that way.

It has to get soaked before anything will open up. To much risk for them to gamble on a chance of a fire.

If its private land its more than likely shut down.  DNR hasnt shut anything down yet.

I have a post on here already with more info. Almost everything from 97 to glenwood is closed, no joke. You can call all 15+ timber compaines if you like and track down the info. It's the hunters responsiblity to know what's open and whats not, not the land owners. If you are hunting above soda then YES it is closed because you would be on WPT and all there land is shut down right now.
