Sons First Bear!
«
on:
September 01, 2012, 08:05:24 PM »
Between sports, family activities and HOT weather we were able to get out and do a little scouting and clearing some brush on an old clear cut to relax and wait for a bruin. We spent last sunday morning doing a little clearing and after dinner we decided to grab our chairs, some snacks and head out for the evening hunt...6:45 we arrive to our designated spot and we hear a crash on the other side of a big pile of brush. We set our chairs and gear down on the ground and the next sound we hear is a big sniffing sound...within seconds a bear steps out at about 10-15 feet, turns to look at us and then stands up on his hinds legs...I wisper to my son to take the shot BOOM! Bear down. 6:50 the work begins...makes a head shot at around 10 feet. Destroyed the skull
but has a nice white patch that will look great for his head mount
He is still walking in the clouds after getting his first bear, and as a father I couldn't be more proud it was awesome!

Thank you for all the kind words everyone... he is shooting a .308 with 165 gr hornady ssts...the whole in the head wasnt to large but the lower jaw was destroyed! We werent able to get any video it all unfolded to fast
But it definitely will leave a lasting impression with him. He has seen me shoot a few but his time finally came and it was a nice bear to boot!
