Cougar probably has the deer wouldn't you think?  Injured, not moving fast, seems like easy prey

Will post pics of the turkey tonight after my late class should be home around 10-1030. Sebek and Double J, I sure hope the cougar didn't get my buck. I like cougars but, they are hunting machines they don't need my help feeding them selves. Stick em, I don't think I am going to have a chance to hunt late season; my class schedule is pretty packed. I know there is a lot of controversy over this particular subject but, I feel after wounding two animals, even though the doe will live, I should just punch my tag put it in the scrap book I am keeping as a hand down to my daughter or future grand children. I have the turkey and am working on curing the fan, wings, beard, and claws and I have the memories of the weekend.

The only deer i have never recovered was taken by a cougar. It drug it up a tree, which was werid. Followed the trail found a bedding spot, then drag marks. My friend and I were really confused. Looked and looked but never foynd anything. The next morning his neighbor stopped by and told him to keep a eye on his kids there was a cougar in the area that killed a deer and drug it up a tree.
So i wouldn't rule out the cat caught up with it before I did. But I am not giving up on it until i see the buzzards circling and I find a body.

I can see the cat sitting down after a nice venison meal and flossing with the broadhead :chuckle:

Double J you are cruel, but the cat couldn't use the broad head as a pick. It was a complete pass through and I have the arrow with the broad head attached on my bookcase as my deer trophy.

Sorry.  I was trying to bring a bit of levity to the situation.  No hard feelings meant by it.

Congrats on the bird.

Loved your story from beginning to end. Sorry it didn't turn out the way you had hoped. Still, time in the field with your daughter, a great bird, and new friends. It doesn't get much better than that. Keep your head up. No doubt you'll get it all together next time around.

I know this isn't a taxidermy or turkey thread but, I was going to try and cure the fan and stuff myself but it is more involved that I thought. Anyone know of someone who can cure (not mount have my own idea for mounting) the fan, beard, wings, and legs for pretty cheap?

Never done a bird but, to dehydrate the body parts of a deer, immersing them in salt has always worked for deer parts :dunno:

Have you tried contacting Michelle_Nelson?  She is a member on here and has a taxidermy business not too far from you in the Rochester area.

Have not used her services, but have spoken to her with questions about potential work I was considering.  She has been very helpful and I believe honest in her responses, and not just looking to "drum-up" business for herself.

Send her a PM and see what she has to say, I wouldn't think what you are wanting done would be overly expensive, and you will probably have some time before she could get it done to cover the costs.

Just a thought!!
