How to combat WOTNR syndrome?

I, like most young adult hunters suffer from WOTNR (what's over the next ridge) syndrome.  It's a terrible affliction when you have to sit in a tree stand all day because you have been watching 2 nice bulls frequent the area on your trail cam.
  I have never hunted out of a stand and this year will be my first.  Usually I can sit and glass for an hour max, before WOTNR sets in and my legs start moving.  I don't know how I'm gonna last all day!

What do you guys do to help pass the time and keep this terrible disease at bay?  I leave tomorrow night for Idaho and I need a cure fast!!!!

The only cure I've found for this affliction is to climb down and find out WOTNR.

I can sit on a stand for the am and evening hunt.... (not a tree stand man made blind or cliffs/ridges) Sunrise till around 10-11 am.... Then I still hunt and sit here and there.... Usually back on a stand from 4-dark..... I know the tree stand is a productive way.... I just can't do it..... Good luck!!!!

I too suffer from the same affliction. I know it has cost me animals, but I can say it's got me a few too. Trying to over come it but I'm a mover...  ;) :chuckle:

I have only hunted in a tree stand a few times one of wich I had to sit and watch to bucks playing around in a field about 150 yards away while I was archery hunting

Well I think generally  it is A pretty good thing to have, but when your in the thick stuff it would be nice to turn it off cause I'll probably just push the elk farther away.

I am a rifle hunter, and I know I have this affliction.. a 2 mile hike becomes a 5 or 6 mile hike real quick...  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I can sit in my stands from light to dark. A couple things I do, read louis lamore books, I pretend when it's really slow that something is walking in and pull the bow back or get the gun in position and once in a while I even take SHORT naps. Not sure if I've missed anything while taking the short naps but it's amazing how many animals you see at anytime of the day, not just the prime times. It may get super boring most times but don't give up on it, you'll be surprised how productive it can be. And pay attention to the wind, just because you are up higher than them, the scent still comes into play.

I got it trained out of me.. my dad on the other hand after 45 mins you'll see him go wandering past, first time I hunted with him again after the army remember going where the hell is he off to? then 30-45 mins here he goes again the other way  :dunno:

Imagine yourself three days from now, looking back today, saying to yourself:  :bash: "How I wish I had waited until later in the hunt.

You have the rest of the season to find out "WOTNR." You picked the spot you did because you think its the best spot to try first. Go with that. If you wait there three long days with nothing, then go take a look over.

My addiciton went away when I killed my biggest buck at 12:30 in the afternoon. I have learned to trust my instinces and stay put. Although when I'm not hunting it hits me hard and there is no stopping it.  :bash:

My dad taught me......   by letting me go see WOTNR.    I'd wander off and inevitably he'd shoot something and I wouldn't.

Now, I bring a book.   If I can't concentrate on the hunt, I read a bit.  It works with a good book.

Animals seem to like to wander out when I read now....     ;)

Get a nintendo ds or play games on your phone. Books would be good too.

Most of all have confidence in your set up! I have 2 bulls out of a tree in 5.5 TOTAL hours sitting. If your getting good pics why do u wotnr?

I like to sleep nothing like waking up to a buck standing 20 yds away and your bow is still hanging on the tree :bash: :bash: actually I have gotten some good sleep in a tree stand

I have what is called 'WATBOTR' WHAT'S AT THE BOTTOM OF THAT RAVINE. All my kills have always been at the bottom of steep ravines/river bottoms.

My dad cured me of that paticular affliction...   one elk at the bottom of a deep dark steep ass canyon, and 3 days to get him all packed out of the hole...  :bash:  cured me in a hurry...  I never hurt so bad even after a football game, as I was when we were done...

I've only found one cure for WOTNR and WATBOTR.  It's called "Old Age".  But don't count on it being a complete cure.  :chuckle:

     LOL!!     I learned this in 5th grade!!!    :chuckle:    This is probably why Plateau has so many kids!!! LOL!!

Made it a day and a half in the stand, played lots of risk and cribbage, but we realized the elk weren't in the area so we had to go find them.  I was amazed how fast a day can go by though.  Hopefully next weekend they will be back.
