does anyone plan on hunting in lewis co?
« on: July 25, 2007, 12:59:59 AM »
I've hunted most every unit in lewis co for both deer and elk. Winston, Mossyrock, lewis river, and many more. I would be willing to trade some good "honey holes" for any in the entiat unit. I drew an entiat A tag for Nov 1-18.

As for the Winston and Mossyrock units, lots of animals, but lots of people. So if anyone plans on hunting any of these units, I'll sure try to point you in the right direction.

i sent you a pm

Also i forgot to add, I also have a lot of info on the margret unit. I grew up scouting that unit, just in case i got drawn for that tag. Now, all the gates are locked so it's makes scouting rather tough. (unless you want to walk a long ways)  Don't get wrong I don't mind walking, if I know that nobody is going to drive passed me. It gets rather annoying when you are in 4 or 5 miles on foot and people (usually weyerhaeuser employees) drive passed you. In their defense, they usually aren't scouting, just working, either way it's annoying.

The last couple of years I've focused on scouting the goat rocks wilderness, for one day I hope to draw a tag for a goat and bull. Last year my friend drew a goat rocks tag and killed a bull that scored 333". It was a dandy

Pray for snow.  If we get some snow you will have an awesome hunt.  If you only have a small amount of time to go over there.  I'd shoot for the last part of the season.  Better chance for a greater number of deer.  The best thing to do is look at a topo map of the unit and look for south facing bowls that are off the beaten path.  Then hike in there and you should be into some deer.

The number one thing you need to know about the enitat is TIRE CHAINS.  Do NOT go in there without tire chains.  Those are some nasty roads.  Even with chains.  You will have a pucker facter of 9.8.

I agree with Bullcanyon. Don't bring cable chains, but welded v-lug mud and snow chains. Les Schwab can order them in for you, well worth the extra money...

I think my buddy had 6 or 7 points and drew the goat rocks tag. It's a good tag, but hard hunting. I only have 4 elk points, but I only want a goat rocks or mt adams tag. The last 2 years I put in for mt adams, goat rocks, carlton, margret. Next year I only plan on putting in for mt adams and the goat rocks.

I have six now for deer, sheep, and moose.  Three for elk and four for goat.
