Put up the blind today
« on: August 21, 2008, 08:32:06 PM »
My buddy and I went up and set out the blind in preparation of our archery opener on Sept. 1st.  We're almost up to the field and do our usual "poke the head and see if anything is there".  Well, there was.  A moose!  Unfortunately, her calf wasn't with her which made us nervous.  But she moved on eventually.  Anyway, here are some pics of the blind going up.

My buddy packing up the camo netting and blind while I have the corn on my back

Before the blind goes up

Pic of one of the shoot through windows, pre-modification

Pic of the window we made to increase the field of view.  The small hole in the middle is where I had shot through it.

Just the blind.  You can barely see my buddy inside it

With the camo netting

Wow.  I have the same basic blind, that camo netting makes it much better!

The netting does blend it in quite a bit huh...

Good work. Good luck with it.

I just re-read the regulations and it only prohibits baiting for bears and turkeys.  I don't know where I got the idea that you could not bait deer or elk.  Now I can see why setting up a blind or stand would make some good sense.

Good luck with your setup.

You might want to put it a little more out in the open.

Nice. But I'm curious...why did you "shoot through it?"

You've got to practice shooting through the windows because the arrow won't fly exactly the same as an open shot.  Mine's got probably 3 dozen holes total in the windows from practice, turkeys, and bear.  By the way, a Gobbler Guillotine will never make it through cleanly, but I had to try once!  Now I just leave the windows open like everyone else for turkeys!

Todd is exactly right.  The original window was designed for arrows to pass through but didn't give much of a field of view.  So I bought some mosquito netting and velcro to make a bigger shoot-through window.  The test was successful as I put an arrow dead center.

That's interesting. I never would have thought they were made to be just shot through.
