300. mag, too much?

I've never wasted much meat by shooting deer with my 300WM.  If they are close, just shoot them in the head or neck.  If they are a ways out there, shoot them behind the shoulder and double-lung them.  Not much wasted meat that way............

I had one for awhile, but prefer smaller myself as well.  Just didn't work out between me and it so it moved on.

I love my 300- never ruined any more meat than with any other caliber- Damaged meat is mainly about shot placement. Mine is a savage with synthetic stock so it is nice and light for packing. If I hold it wrong when I shot I can get bruised up a bit but that's my fault for not shouldering it right. As long as I pull it in nice and tight I can shoot as much as I need to.   Also I must say ---------------------- THIS THREAD IS USELESS WITHOUT PICS-------------------

i just like having a caliber that's enjoyable to shoot.  for what i do, the big magnums aren't really my first choice.  i won't knock anyone's caliber choice, though.

if i ever get into reloading, that could always change...

I use the Remington Managed Recoil loads in my 300WM for deer hunting.  They shoot like a .308.

I hunted with a Remington 700BDL in 300 mag for years in California and Utah with no issues but I also hand loaded and built loads for what I was hunting. Best of many worlds 150 grain round noes for Whitetail and black tail 165 grain Nosler BT for Utah Mulies and larger game. Great gun wish I had kept it.

I love my .300 win mag. I have a rem. 700 with drop box. I do reload but favor factory federal .180 grain nosler bullets for elk and .150 gr core lokt for deer. Just place the bullet right and you won't have any issues. The gun can seriously reach out and touch an animal.

First time last year (ever) I shot an elk twice with it. The shot was 350 yds, once thru the neck and the other thru the boiler house. The 2nd shot did damage to left shld coming out, But I have seen 30.06 do a lot worse than a 300 can.

Get a tikka t3lite .300wm and not sacrifice weight an d have an all around gun you can do ANYTHNG with! Enough said!

A Tikka would be the only thing that would detour me from the chambering.

If you do not need to grind it to make burgers it's probably ruined. 

grundy53's response was nearly word for word what I was thinking.  All about the bullet choice.  And with the 300WM you have A LOT of choices

Remington factory 30-06 165gr core-lokt  = 2800 fps
