bear down friday afternoon
« on: September 09, 2012, 05:29:42 PM »
got my 2012 WA bear friday afternoon. girlfriend and i got to a glassing spot around 330 pm and were waiting and glassing. had a candy bar at about 5 and the gf spotted a bear (first wild bear shes seen) and was very excited. i watched and played cat and mouse with the bear in the brush for an hour and a half. i was on him at 180 yards and about to shoot when he ducked behind a tree. i watched teh opening on teh other side of the tree for 10 minutes through my scope. then i needed to give my eye a break and stretch my legs so i stood up and looked down the hill to our right and there he was. the bear snuck closer and was working side hill below us. so we jumped up and headed down after. peeked over a rock and there he was walking broadside around 80-85 yards. i pulled up and let him have it! maybe a little overgunned with the 300 RUM and 215 grain bullets at 2950 fps but a hight shoulder hit put him down in a hurry!
not a real big bear but i saw the chocolate color and had to have him! it was hard to tell size in yellow grass also.
thanks for looking!
dropped the skin off for a soft tan today!
