Probably need more info on experience, what type of hunting (road, spot, stalk, hike), expected terrain, etc., but you could not go wrong with some of the 10 essentials like compass and map (gps maybe), knife or multi-tool, shelter, such as a light tarp, fire starting materials (lighter, tinder), water purification tablets, extra food, cordage, layered clothing including a rain shell, etc.
Good luck, and of course don't forget your tags, license, and proper ammo for the rifle (well practiced and sighted in).
Gifts depend on the recipient, but a good scotch might be well received, or something personal that shows more thought.
