9-11-01
« on: September 11, 2012, 01:50:17 PM »
I was a senior in high school and I remember that day like it was yesterday. All we did in school that day is watch the news reports in total shock. I don't know if we truley comprehended what had happened that day But like Pearl harbor it is a day that will live in infamy. We had football practice after school that day and of all things that I remember I remember the fact that there was no planes flying at all. Jets fly above us constantly all day and you never notice until they stop. I don't remember how we got through practice that day but we did. A couple days later we played a football game. They were going to cancel it but decided not to. They said it would help the community heal and show that we won't let them beat us. Before the game I was asked if I would carry the flag when we run out on the field. It doesn't seem like a terribly big deal now but back then I remember being very honored. When I ran out on the field waving old glory, everyone in the stadium, home and away stood up screaming and cheering and I'll be damned if it didn't bring a tear to my I. To this day it is one of the proudest moments of my life. The simple fact I could be a part of it. Of helping our community and our country come together and heal. Sorry for the rambling but I think about it often and some one from the team posted on facebook a poster that was made up after that game.
