finally got a tag
« on: September 11, 2012, 09:04:54 PM »
im still fairly new to the forum, but theres a ton of good information here. anyways i finally got everything together and im going to be able to go after a deer this season. i got the opportunity to hunt some land over in eastern wa. my wifes, friends, son is hopefully going to be able to show me around the land a bit and try to help me out.  im just wondering other than my rifle and tag what should i bring as far as gear goes, im thinking binoculars, first aid kit, water, some emergency supplies etc. also what should i bring as a thank you gift for this guy for helping a newbie out? hopefully it will be the beginning of a good friendship .
thanks guys

Probably need more info on experience, what type of hunting (road, spot, stalk, hike), expected terrain, etc., but you could not go wrong with some of the 10 essentials like compass and map (gps maybe), knife or multi-tool, shelter, such as a light tarp, fire starting materials (lighter, tinder), water purification tablets, extra food, cordage, layered clothing including a rain shell, etc.

Good luck, and of course don't forget your tags, license, and proper ammo for the rifle (well practiced and sighted in).

Gifts depend on the recipient, but a good scotch might be well received, or something personal that shows more thought.
