I believe that all predators are tough to get to look right.  It might be because the eyes are on the front of the head and not the side as in prey animals.  You are looking directly at the eyes and can see any flaws immediately.  Prey animals seem to have a little more "fudge" room, IMO.

Most cougars I have seen mounted are pretty pethetic. there are only a few taxidermists in washington that can mount a nice cat. ;)

I love this guys cats,  especially the aggresive ones.  Both of the taxi's I have used I would not let them do cougars for me.  They both do awesome bobcats though.  I have looked at a lot of taxi's work and am very picky.  Not all guys can do everthing and I think that most will admit it.  Would you agree with me BL?  It is worth the $ and time to find a guy you like.  The guy I use now is a 2 hour drive for me.

I like that guy's cat faces too, very consistent comparatively. His cats all seem fat though. Maybe his clients all shoot well fed cats! :tung: Seriously, he's awesome.

Michelle has my lion, doing a rug. I've got some unfinished pics, the face looks excellent. Especialy for the damage I did to it shooting it in the jaw!!! We were trying to get a closed mouth head form for the rug, because that's more realistic with a Cougar, but none exist. We went open mouth. I can't wait to see it in person!!

(I can't recommend you until I have it in my hands, Michelle!!!)

Phil Is known as the Catman! He is the man when it comes to cats! Hands down one of the most elite when it comes to cat mounts. Thats also why he is a world champion! Personally I have only done 2 Lions and look better than alot of guys that have been doing them for years. Still , I have a ways to go. I just need to get more cats in to get better  ;). I cant seem to kill a lion if my life depended on it  :chuckle:

Tell me about it,  I can shoot antelope, deer and bear on the run no sweat.  Put a cat in front of me at 75 yards standing still and it is as safe as can be.  I have fired a total of 9 rounds at cats and have not hit one.  All my buddy's gave me crap for the longest time until 2 of them have done the same thing.  It is frustrating let me tell ya.  I was in Oroville bear hunting 8-10 years ago and had two big cats jump up on the road in front of us as we were walking.  I shot and they stood there and looked at us.  I shot again and they took off.  I ran through the bush to head them off and took a of the hip shot and missed.  I was so sick I came home 3 days early.

I totally agree. Cats have to be one of the toughest animals to get right when it comes to taxidermy work. That being said, "Rick" at Cedar River Taxidermy does the very best work on cats that I have ever seen in my 52 years of walking this planet. He is located in Ravensdale, WA.

Hey Kent Hunter, does Cedar River Taxidermy have regular shop hours or are they open by appointment only?  Thanks in advance

Hi Wonky. Yes, Rick has regular business hours. His number is 1-888-886-0231. Tell him Spike says "hi".

I used Cedar River when Rick Weiler owned it.  The new Rick is a nice guy but I dont like the way my buddies big non-typical blacktail turned out that he did.  The eyes do not look right at all.  I loved the old Ricks work but again I would not let either one do a cat for me.  Buzzi does good cats but does not do his own work to much anymore.
