What's your Deer hunting Rifle and Ammo?
« on: September 12, 2012, 01:15:30 PM »
I use a weatherby vanguard .270 with 130 grain federal vital shocks.  Vanguard is so accurate and those federals are just plain deadly.

what do the guys of hunting washington use??  :)

(of course i'm talking about eastern washington for the 130 grains.  150's for the west side)

Since I was on a super tight budget when i got into hunting, i have a Marlin xl7 with a Nikon Buckmaster on top.  Shot my first deer with a 165 grain Accubond which i am pretty sure blew up when it hit the deers rib and turned both lungs to goo.  This year, i will be trying to honor my great uncle by using his Remington 742 which absolutly loves to shoot Federal Fusion's in the 165's.  Both rifles are 30-06

I have used many but i have used a winchester model 70 .270 win and 130 grain hornady interlock SP for most of the deer i have taken. The sierra BTSP also have taken a lot for me. For open sights i use a Marlin 444 with hornady interlock 265's and speer golddot 270 grainers. Or a marlin 1894 in 44 mag with 240gr winchester SP.

A sporterized SKS in 7.62x39 scoped with illuminated reticle for low light predators and a 1932 Mosin Nagant scoped to 1MOA groups at 100yds. I know, buy a real rifle for hunting but I'm on a budget this year lol.

BLR .308, tasco 3-9 with cheap rem ammo for #1
Browning Safari .270 with home loaded 140gr Hornady BTSP over 58.5 grs of 4831 with a Redfield 2-7 for #2-4 or 6
Custom 1943 Mauser in B&C stock 30/06 with same redfield 2-7 throwing federal fusion 150s for a few more deer
(now owned by lazydrifter - ENJOY!)
lately I've been sticking deer with Easton 2215 XX75 arrows...

It's a survivor for sure but everyone that sees me ruck it to the field says I need to buy an American rifle because they are reliable... That's funny my rifle has been VERY reliable through a few wars at least and still capable of tack driving under 400yds :)

howa 308 with a niko sterling on top. shooting 150gn federal vital shocks.

Stevens .30-06 with federal premium vital-shok with 180gr Nosler accubond. My intent was a bullet capable of taking both deer and elk. Once I use up this box though I will probably switch to something in a 150gr all copper likes the Barnes TTSX as I am not liking the recoil from the 180gr rounds.
