« on: September 12, 2012, 05:10:03 PM »
So im on my 6th year of archery elk hunting and it feels like its all coming together...im getting in elk everyday now..ive had 5 different bulls bugling since saturday....i spent all summer scouting these herds...its the only green dot road close to my house and money is tight so im hunting close to home this year...well i get out this morning at 3:30 am like everyday this week and locate a bull right away...we spent 4 hrs looking for him after light but he gave is the slip...he went quiet...well we decided to call it a day and we get to the highway and the gate is closed :bash:...i figured some yahoo just closed the gate to be funny...not the case...it wasnt locked but they put up a red dot after we were in there already  :bash: all that time wasted scouting and going after these elk for this to happen...first my dloop  broke as im drawing on a 5pt and now this....whats gonna happen next  :bash: :bash: :bash:  sorry i just needed to vent

Just curious, is it still open to entry by foot?

I don't understand how hunters can be frustrated with wey.co. It is THEIR land and it is a privilege they let us on THEIR land. We as hunters know that THEIR land can be closed to entry at their discretion at any time. It is part of the game and you should have a plan B just in case.

Most likely west of I-5, he said it was a green dot road that changed to red. The st.helens tree farm doesn't work on the dot system.

sorry, wasn't really trying to give him crap and that might have sounded harsh. :sry: I have been in this situation many times over. However, I hear this type of thread every year.

I hunt Wey.co as well, I have for many years. Been there, done that and learned to have a back up plan. When you play their game you have to follow their rules and know that it is a 50/50 chance they will close the farm during early bow. It is no secret and that is the chance you take if you invest time in this type of hunt. All I am saying is, you should expect it and be ready to put plan B into action.

I quit hunting Weyco land due to their stupidity and changing rules on a daily basis during hunting seasons....  :bash: :bash:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Weyco. used to shut down alot quicker when they allowed vehicles.  Now they seem to wait (maybe because hundreds of angry hunters roaming when its dry isn't great either).  But what burns me is all the public land they control access to that also gets shut down.  Landlocked state and Forest Service.  These agencies need to get real easements to their OUR land.  Just in the St. Helens tree farm I can think of 50,000 acres of PUBLIC land the Weyco. controls access to.
35,000 acres DNR Toutle block
7,000 acres St. Helens Wildlife area (lucky to get a mudflow tag-hope you can get there)
Most of the west border side of Forest Service land including several trailheads.

Why are we paying for the WDFW to set up year-by-year "cooperative" access agreements, when we really need easements that last forever.
