Why are all the bears in the news 400 pounds plus .  I cant even find a nice 250 pounder.

 

I hear ya. I read that and was suprised a WDFW officer said that weight....I would really like to see a pic of a bear that big.

Who knows, might have been a problem bear, getting into trash...might have startled him after dark, etc...false charge...

or could have been " I want to shoot a bear"....either way....issaquah residents need to realize they are surrounded by bears and should be securing garbage as such.

Don't give me the intruder response cause that isn't this and don't say he had no choice when he could have went inside his house and shut the door and called it in.  I know there isn't anything in the story to suggest anything was done wrong but come off your innocent school boy stance, he clearly needs some guidence as to firearm safety and ethics lessons

My innocent school boy stance is because we don't know what happened. This guy could have had problems for many years. Maybe he did call every encounter in and nothing was done about it. Over time, you would get fed up too. MOST of you guys would end up taking matters into your own hands, as would I. We can't judge him until we know the particulars.

If he was talking about the size of the bear, then I agree with him. If he was speaking of the the individual who fired the gun being trigger happy then my last statement stands.

What makes a father who is protective of his children and their play area "Trigger Happy"? The fact that he shot at a bear last year and missed for being in the same area where his children play. Hmmm, guess I'm trigger happy then, because I kill every predator that I see around my place to protect my young children, dog, chickens, garden ect. Again, of coarse I do it legally with tags...either predation tags or hunting tags.

I think the LEO needs some help with his judgement and more training if he is calling a protective father trigger happy for shooting a bear where his children play..... Besides, who made him the judge labeling him trigger happy and since when does his opinion matter. State the facts and enforce the law is all he is required to do. His opinion of this guys character doesn't mean jack to me and its none of his business. That is the job of a judge and jury if it gets to that point.

Don't like it, then go live somewhere like Russia, China or Iran where the police are free to exact there judgements on the people. We live in a democracy where you are innocent until proven guilty.

Well, I doubt it's legal to shoot a bow there either.  If he really did shoot the bear because he was protecting his family, then using a firearm probably was not out of line.........

With just what the news report has printed, then no I would not have shot this bear.. Now,, we do not know if the person was just coming home from work, or from visiting at someones home and surprised this bear, and the bear surprised him.. Or was the bear trying to break into his home, and he shot from inside his house..Did he use a handgun or a rifle??  WHo knows..Infact we know NOTHING about this story, except what was printed in the news artical..

How do you know his kids play in the dark? I never heard why he shot in a tight housing deveoplment maybe someone did. The problem with this statement is that it is highly judgemental.

1. You believe this LEO because you know him and his years of service. (does this mean someone can't be incorrect?)

2. You think the guy is trigger happy and stupid for shooting the bear. (by your own admission you don't know all of the facts so what makes you qualified to judge him in any way?)

3. You say go inside and put your guns for sale so someone responsible can buy them. (again you're judging this mans responsiblity level whithout knowing the whole story. As a Dad, father, husband ect... I would say he acted very responsibly, by killing a 400 lb bear wandering through the neighborhood, but I suppose you would have the bear kill a child first before action is taken.)

Oh and as for shooting archery equipment within the Snoqualmie city limits, if it is illegal which I am sure that it is I guess that would be one of the times breaking a rediculous law would be ok with me to protect my kids.

and yes the word (as you spell it) whoops, would actually be spelled out as ooops.   

I don't know if the guy was right or wrong in what he did, but I surely wouldn't judge him one way or the other. This topic was supposed to be about would we do it, not throwing the guy under the bus.

Oh my. Judgemental is right. The question was would you. I would not shoot at night in a housing devlopment. Does anyone know the stats of blackbear attacks for Washington St? I would guess not real high.
