Unit 175 bugling?
« on: September 14, 2012, 05:06:41 PM »
Just got back from seven days in the Lick Creek unit.   Called in a couple nice 6x6"s, but unfortunately didn't have bull tags.  On Monday night we thought that we'd died and gone to heaven, as more bugling going on throughout the night than we'd ever heard.  But since Tuesday morning didn't hear a bugle, mew or any other elk sounds.  We did bump a few lone animals though.

So, is this silence a function of hunter pressure, weather or what?

Wolves may have roamed into the area. A.few howlings on a quiet night should run a chill down the spine of even a raging bull...

The cold snap was to much imo. Median temp dropped almost 30 degrees monday night night and stayed for 3 days. They kicked back into high gear on friday night.

i spent 9 days there, and had similar results.

On thursday and friday there were twice as many hunters up there as any other point in the season. They were up high and going ape*censored* through sunday morning.
