Wood/antler/skull workers....I need help/advice
« on: September 16, 2012, 08:01:28 AM »
Got my skull all cleaned and white to where I want it.  This is a pretty special deer for me, and since I couldnt swing a mount right now, I am wanting to do a nice euro mount.  The skull turned out perfect for me; stupid dog ate the nose pieces when I had then sitting out to dry before glueing them on, so that kinda sucks.  Anyhow, I have a moose shed that I want to mount it on.  I am wanting to mount the base of the shed to some barn wood.  So, barn wood flat on the wall, then moose shed base mounted to the barn wood and the deer skull sitting in the paddle.  I dont have many/any real wood working tools here at the house.  Just basic stuff.  What would be the best way to mount the shull to the shed?  Here are some pictures that show what I am wanting to try and do.

You might try tying the deer skull to the moose antler with some leather strap, if you don't want to drill holes in it, and screw the moose antler to the wood. Just wrap the leather around the bone behind the eye holes.

I dont mind drilling holes if I can hide the heads of the screws or whatever hardware I end up using.  I was trying to figure out a way to drill a hole through the roof of the mouth and bolting it to the shed, but I cant figure out a way to drop a long enough bolt through the nasal passage to the roof of the mouth.  I can get a very short one in there, but anything longer and I cant get it to turn down through the hole, if I drilled one.

Drill a hole in the base of the skull below the brain hole where the bone is the hardest/thickest.  Use a long toggle bolt and drill a small hole throught the paddle insert the toggle/bolt tighten down skull to paddle.  screw the barn board to the paddle using screws just long enough not to go through paddle

Or, use longer screws and go through the wood and moose shed into the thick part of the deer skull. Two birds one stone :dunno:
