Memorial to one man is trash to another.  Next time after it rains, the ashes get washed away and then there will be a post on here about someone running across another hunters camp and how crappy it looked and how it looks bad to non-hunters.

Damn, do I hate what I call a pile of litter were ever someone dies.  Suddenly a pile of crap shows up.  Candles, teddy bears, flowers, other piles of *censored*.  It's always on someone elses property, and it sits there forever because no one wants to disturb litter dedicated to somebody who died.  Not that I'm insensitive about death, but for crying out loud, how is leaving crap on a sidewalk doing anyones memory anything?

Ashes wash away and real flowers will rot both I find more appropriate than anything.....a memorial marker is also tasteful.....but I tend to agree stuffed toys and plastic flowers candles and non biodegradables are distasteful trash and disrespectful of a true nature lover....someone who would not want to leave a lasting mark upon the land but would want to become a part of the land.

I want my ashes dumped on a compost pile, my preference is a manure pile from a horse barn....my kids hate that idea I do not care I will haunt them if they dont do as I wish

Given the location of this place, rain and non hunters isn't much of an issue. This isn't a roadside memorial. I enjoyed seeing this. A thoughtful and touching last gesture in a beautiful location for someone who clearly enjoyed the outdoors.

3 Nails, you are correct.  This is proably at the request of the departed.  Run.  You are wrong on this one.  There is love all over that site.  Also, there appears to be a bible.  There is a lot in this picture. I read it as love for someone.  Not litter.

Coyote I see nothing wrong with that! A hat a bible I doubt any of that will end up at my cabin blowing in the wind. There is another Memorial in the 218 going up cub creek when you get to the old corral if you take the road that brings you to the top of the mountain above it there is a Husband and Wife scattered there with a sign showing there names and dates on it.

Run and Cat now there is the marker's on the west Chewuch road half mile out of town of the 3 or 4 people killed some years ago that is getting a little out of hand ....I think anyway.

I've run across more than a few of these in my time and am always touched by them and wonder about the person being memorialized and having friends and family who loved them.  On the other side, if my wife and older daughter follow my wishes, I will be scattered in a back country spot that's a pretty tough walk.  I suspect they'll scatter my ashes in a mall parking lot and go shopping.

Cathie and I are going to have our ashes spread down from the house, in Soda Springs.  A lot of memories for me and her.  Also a lot of memories of family members that have gone down in there after steelhead and salmon.  Been going down there since 1962.  Yep, it is part of the wildlife area, but having bought licenses and tags since 1954, I figure I have paid for a spot.

Same here, my ashes will be spread on top of Ravens Roost, figure atleast that way a elk will be able to piss on me from time to time....

if it was a candle and a scarf and an old romance novel .....would you all be so oh its great.....how about flowers and balloons......

a plaque, a small memorial are one thing a bunch of belongings left in the woods are litter....intent might be good its still litter

    Public navigable waters under state control, including Puget Sound, the Pacific Ocean within the 3-mile limit, rivers, streams, and lakes.
    The Pacific Ocean beyond the 3-mile limit. These scatterings must be reported within 30 days to the Regional Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 10, 1200 Sixth Avenue, Seattle, WA 98101.
    Private land, with the permission of the land owner.

I like it - I've found a couple of memorials while out hunting and was always touched by them.

In fact, I'm going to request somebody dump my ashes up in a wilderness area 10 or 12 miles from the road.  Since I'm going to die anyway, I'm going to swallow about 50 pounds of split shot before they cremate me so my SOB friends won't ever forget packing my remains up there.

One of our hunting buddies had a passion for goose hunting.  When he died, his two best friends got together with his wife, and they loaded up a few 12 gauge shells with a token amount of his ashes and took him on one last goose hunt. One of them got his first ever double!

My family and I just did this last weekend up at Eight Mile Creek. It was my Grandfathers favorite place to hunt and camp. He wanted to be spread up on the hill in his favorite spot but my Grandma could never make it up there so he later settled for across the road from Honeymoon Camp Ground. We left some roses and his ashes. We had many good times up there with him. Some of the best times in my life was him and I would go grouse hunting and do some scouting up there.
Over the years, the deer hunting has gotten worst and worst. I always tried to talk him into finding a new area but he would none of it. If anyone on here has ever met him, you would never forget his name, Columbus Kitchen. I miss him like crazy. It has been 5 years since he passed and feels like it was yesterday.

I think memorials can be a nice way of remembrance, but if they are on public land they should be kept reasonably small and neat and probably shouldn't be materials that are going to be permanent. That picture looks more like someone forgot to clean up after camping though.
