I just got my son the diamond edge 2 weeks ago. He is already shooting at 30 yards. We started at 35 pounds and now he is up to 40. 329 for the package at cabelas plus 20 off coupon most of the time makes it 309. 30 dollars for cabelas carbon arrows. And 20-70 or more for a release and you have a bow your wife or daughter can shoot for a long time.

Also don't forget that there is a minimum arrow weight and length regulation.  300 grains and 20 inches.  My wifes arrows barely make weight due to her short draw length (23.5") and pull weight (#45).

We had the owner of a pro-shop choose her arrows and heads.  There is a lot of stuff that goes into picking the right arrow.  They put her in 100 grain heads and 26" 600 spine arrows to make weight and still be able to flex enough to fly right.

You also need to check King County no shooting zones although they apply primarily to firearms.

She must be a strong 14 year, not too many can pull 40# at that age.

Cabelas has a youth/womans bow called the "Diamond-razors edge". Its a 30-60 lb bow and has a ton of draw length adjustment. The bow comes in camo or pink and i believe was on sale for just under $300. My wife shoots that same bow and has killed 2 bucks and a bear with it. Your tip weight should be around 85 for youth. Muzzy has inexpensive yet quality broadheads. Dont forget, the minimum draw weight is 40# and shes gonna need all of that to kill an elk. My wifes draw weight is 45#. Goodluck.
This is a great bow (I'm a bowtech lover), got one for my 13 year old and it shoots great. We changed to a drop-away and it just got better. This is a bow that will grow with the archer and is top shelf. I have to agree that it is very late to try bow hunting this year unless she has put down an animal before. I was always taught to shoot an animal you have to be able to hit a grapefruit at 30yrds 4 out of 6. The rush is the hardest part and you have to have your form down before you get close. I would run 100gr broadheads (I'm a muzzy guy) and you'll want to consult a pro for the right arrow spine. Probably a 400 will get you close. FYI, Ebay has great deals on bows come march & april. That will give her plenty of time to practice and get to some archery shoots. Cedar Bowman Club is close to you and the guy's there will help her.

I'm just putting this out there and will probably get some HEAT from what I'm about to ask and I'm sure I speak for a lot of  bowhunters and archers, but please don't just go out there and buy her a bow and have her start hunting with out having her put in a great deal of practice. And when I mean practice , I mean consistently shooting the bow for a  few months. In my opinion she probably should not even hunt this year but plan on having her ready for next September. If she has not shot a bow before and is new to shooting it takes a while to become proficient to hunt with a bow. Spend the time shooting and take her to some local 3-d shoots to get her use to shooting in hunting situations, believe me it will pay off greatly and it will build her confidence for when she takes that shot at a live animal. I am asking this of you because I have seen it with my own eyes, grown men picking up brand new bows, shooting them very little and going out and flinging arrows at animals at all sorts of distances just because they were doing it at the range. I would hate to see her get a bad shot on an animal and loose it due to not getting enough practice.  Thank you.

:yeah: :yeah:     don't know why you'd get any heat from that statement.
Shooting at a range, and even shooting at 3d targets, is not the same as shooting at a live animal where a miss can mean long tracking or worse a wounded and lost animal.  If your daughter is new to hunting there is a whole lot of education that needs to happen.
Not just shooting, but ethics, animal anatomy and the like.  but then again she does need to take the hunter safety and bow classes at that age.
Practice Practice Practice..... btw - I like Kenmore range in Bothell as it has great terrain to work on uphill and downhill shots.

Old enough to know better.
Young enough to go for it.

As a veteran bowhunter, I would also agree with this completely. I think it is fantastic to get involved with Archery bowhunting, but rushing into it in the middle of a season for a first timer could turn into a real bad idea. But the thought of getting your daughter out there with you hunting is AWESOME!!!!!

I wish you the best of luck!
