Tomorrows Hunt
« on: September 28, 2012, 10:14:02 PM »
Im heading out tomorrow in some steep country and want to know HW opinion. I hunt elk in the colockum, deer in mazama but this area is steep. Looking at google earth the first leg of my journey will be a .92 mile 2700' quad burner. Without any trail how long do you think it would take to get ridge line in mostly thick timber and avalanche shoots? I am assuming 2.5 hrs. What do you think?

If I'm reading your question right, riding a quad .92 of a mile, maybe 5 minutes tops to all day,

I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

I think he means quads like the muscels. Be sad if it took anyone 2.5 hrs to go one mile on a quad :chuckle: :chuckle:

Jeez you will be scooting up that!  3 miles of 3200ft wagonwheel lake trail took 3 half hours to get family up.  I could have done it faster for sure but its a trail.  You will be climbing more than walking!! I would give myself more time and not kill myself. :twocents: 3.5hours.
MAGA!  Again..

yote you were right 3 hrs. 2 hrs down... but I would much rather go up than down in that country.
Got off to a late start and was only 1/3 of they way up by shooting time. 2/3 of the way up clouds set in and i was socked in until 2 or so in the afternoon. No bear, No goats, no deer. kind of lame with the lack of game and poor visibility but it was a great climb.
I got down before dark drove to a glassing spot and glassed the hill I was on earlier and still came up negative.
