My moose load is ironed out!
« on: August 22, 2008, 08:40:06 PM »
I was out shooting this evening just to verify my zero before going out for a mountain lion hunt tomorrow (more like a hike with a very slim chance of seeing a cougar but at least I will be hunting and in the hills). I am shooting a 300 Win Mag with the Barnes 180 TSX and am using RL22. I like to zero my rifle at 250 yards so I fired 3 shots and got a 1.2" group. Then I moved my bench out to 500 yards and used the appropriate aim point on my Leupold 3.5-10 with the Boone and Crockett reticle and fired another 3 shots which measured 2.6". All 6 shots fired made a 2.7" group with the 250 yard group nestled within the 500 yard group. So I am ready for mountain lions tomorrow and for moose come October. I have tried the Barnes 168 TTSX and the Nosler 200 Partition some but the 180 TSX is giving the most consistent accuracy. Brian

Sounds like you got it dialed in!!  Was thinking on trying the TSX in my 300WSM.  Just mounted the same scope.

Hay Brian, sounds like you're loaded for bear!  :yike: Sure would be nice if you would get rid of a cat or two and save out deer and elk. I scouted the moose area over the last 3 days and The people up at the noorth end say most the moose are up there. Then the people on the south half say most the moose are down there!
They all agree there's lots of moose! We only say a cpow and calf.  STB

Yes I do want to try my 45 Colt but if I cannot get close enough I will use my 300 Win Mag. Brian.

I took the wife to the range today and got the .338 Win Mag dialed in. I got it sighted in at 250 yard zero, so we should be good for short or long range, that thing does have some bite! 6lb. 6 oz. with a 13oz. scope and some rings and bases this thing is less than 7 1/2 lbs!! She won't notice it when that bull steps into view!!!!!!

Hear we come!!

I am using 72.5 grains of RL22 and the Federal 210 primer with Winchester cases and am getting 3040 fps from my 25" Broughton barrel which has the 5C land. Brian.

I just put a limb saver recoral pad on my 7MM Rem Mag. And it took all the bite out of it.

I agree with the recoil pad.  I have one on all my guns.  Took the bite out of my 300WSM and made the little 12GA comfortable for the wife even with Turkey Loads.  Worth every penny!

Which one did you guys use? The slip on or the one you install in place of the factory pad.

I got the slip on. Took the stock pad off, it fit perfect. I picked it up at WalMart.
