Called the number, in the link and only got a voice mail.  I will try again today to find out more.  Hate  to drive that 113 miles, one way, for nothing.  Would be a wee bit ticked to drive that far and find out it was bogus.

Staff report

OAK HARBOR — The Navy is inviting anyone interested in hunting on Whidbey Island Naval Air Station property during the 2012-13 season to attend one of two meetings in September and October.

Hunters must have a Washington state hunting license to receive a permit and present the licenses for the species they want to hunt to get a hunting permit on base property.

Civilian hunters are allowed to participate in the pheasant release program. The specific documents to get the base hunting permit are:

• Pheasant hunters — A DOD or state-issued picture identification card or badge, and western Washington pheasant license (with odd/even selection).

• Waterfowl hunters — A DOD or state-issued picture identification card, Washington state small game license, state migratory bird validation and federal duck stamp (attached to license and signed across the face).

• Deer hunters — A DOD-issued identification card, Washington state big game license with archery deer option and transport tag.

Meetings are scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 20 and Oct. 4, at Building 130, Gallery Golf Course. Information handouts will cover on-base hunting permit requirements, hunting areas and base access procedures.

Hunters may register, pay the $13 permit fee and receive the installation hunting permit.

For questions, call             360-257-8873      .

Unless Im missing something here it looks like deer, pheasant and waterfowl...

Looks like Deer requires DOD Identification, but waterfowl and pheasant allow for state ID. So seems deer is still limited. :(

But it is a base issued DoD Id open to any civilian who passes muster.  Not just DoD, military, employees and families

I am confused, seemed to me it was saying you have to have DoD ID, not that they would issue one. How do you get a DoD issued ID if you are not military, family of military, or DoD contracted civilian?  :dunno:

I have a DOD because I am a contracted civilian but I believe they will give one to you if you have a purpose for going on the base. I would assume that if you go to the meeting pay the 13 buck and pass all the necessary requirements they will issue one. It is a scanned card so you go on to just any base with it. I assume the scan will tell them if you are excepted when you can be excepted etc.
