Are you going to have time to scout next summer? If so, PM me as I know of a few good areas for archery. Just hope the wolves haven't moved in since I was last there.  :bash:

If you can find a friend or someone on the forum that was successful at getting into elk recently thats your best bet.  If that doesn't pan out, then get to work on researching the units.
Get the hunting success stats and see what units are producing.  Call biologist, they can be very helpful.  Make sure you use the most recent information, a few years will make a big differents due to bad winters and wolves.  :twocents:  Good luck

We just got back from a hunt in one of the highest success rates in the state. Near Sun Valley. Buggled in a 5x6 but cause we are rookies we didnt have an open shot, he came in too fast. Only saw 2 elk the whole 6 days. lots of sign just were not calling much because of the wolves. Lots and lots of wolf tracks everywhere. We went to four different spots from 10k feet down to 6k feet. We hiked in nobody was near us at all.

Saw a huge black one on a ridge. Saw tracks bigger than my hand. Once i get the pics back I will post them. Rode 50 miles on the dirtbikes, hiked over 25 miles in 6 days and saw 2 elk and 4 bears. Still fun though

The area I grew up elk hunting was ruined by wolves. There's still some great hunting to be had, but a buddy of mine that lives there says the elk just really dont talk much anymore. The last time I was there we were in one of our favorite elk spots, a place called buster lake, we heard an elk bugle and it was instantly replied by a pack of wolves. What an eery sound to hear.

Our spot was near challis, to my understanding most of the areas around central Idaho/salmon area have pretty much been ruined. Not trying to be negative there is still some great elk hunting in parts, I'd just stay away from that area.

Mac or PC. I have posted with my samsung phone on both, and they are both different.

You might have to email them to yourself then post them. If they are to big you have to shrink them down to post.

Yep.  Colorado or Montana I would focus on.  Idaho wolves taking a toll.

I just got back from Idaho. Saw 5 bulls in about 6 hours of hunting (only 1 in range, family emergency ended my hunt on day 1). Had 6-10 bugling.....
I think wolves are a problem, but not nearly as bad as everyone says, or repeats.

I simply won't be talking about how good the elk hunting is in N Idaho because that whole area is my honey hole... :chuckle:  All the good hunting is in the Blues and everyone knows it.

Family has a ranch in Idaho that was flush with elk and deer as a boy... Now you hardly see any wildlife, except wolves.
