I'm no expert but the sea ducks I have shot don't seem to be to difficult to hunt. find some birds and set upe decoys and it honestly us that easy in my experience but as with most waterfowl hunts location makes all the difference

Take some OLD mallard decoys you don't care much about, and paint them all black with a white patch on them.
That'll look like most all sea ducks.
It'll fool the hell out of 'em.
When you decoy for sea divers, remember to keep all the decoys in a long line.
Not in small bunches, like you normally do for mallards.
Good luck.

:chuckle: The only reason that I don't hunt sea ducks is that I couldn't even begin to eat those things :puke:

They require lots of butter and tarragon.  I prefer them cold too.  Even makes scoter and coot edible.  Not bad durky either.  Though it does take a while for your brain to not expect the taste of elk.

i've got a friend who says he likes to soak coots in milk overnight before he cooks them.  says they taste just like a steak...i'm not sure i'm that brave.  i only shoot the ones that quack or whistle!

There's just too many people out there just wanting to kill chit! for the fun of it, and it really pisses me off :bash:  What do they do with the birds if they don't eat them?? Throw them in the trash or bury them in the garden for fertilizer to justify not wasting :dunno:
By not pointing it out isn't right either :dunno:

Good point....
Don't kill what you don't intend to eat.
Just remember, that "WE" are hunters, not "COOKERS".
lol....
I bet if you went on some chef forums, they'd have a ton a Delicious recipes for all manner of seaducks. It's all in how you cook 'em.
Bacon wraping helps....     :chuckle:

I think we should be shooting the hell out of Mergansers and they don't taste much different. Not all hunting is about food, sometimes its about management. Do you shoot coyotes? do you eat them? how bout crows or skunks?
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Was it last year a guy posted up a request for a yote....cooked up a hind quarter at Christmas? I think it was. However, If I shoot a yote he is staying where he lies....crow food.

Maybe. But if you have bacon-wrapped, duck breasts, then you throw out the duck breasts.....it would taste a lot better  :chuckle:
