Hunting for Black Bear after the frost
« on: November 10, 2012, 01:46:01 PM »
Where do you go for bear after the berries are off and the frost has hit?  We were up above Monroe this morning (with the snow coming down), and now that i've checked my normal spots, it occurs to me that they may have moved on... Hatcheries?

You have little time left this season to make it happen.

Try calling.

Thanks saylean.  Is the berries turning the sign that hibernation is coming on?  Yeah, I figured time was running to a close... Spring bear, anyone?!

When the berries are done the only place I have seen them is along rivers with salmon and around hatcheries. I know they always have problems with bears at the Salmon river hatchery in Jefferson county around this time of year but that is reservation.

Well, berries turning does indicate hibernation is not too far off. Last year, I was able to call in two bears in a few inches of snow, my brother bagged one of them. They are still out, but are getting harder to find. With a few days left, maybe try to hit a snow line and cut a track, then call....

Of course, bobcat is still open, so call away, you never know what might come!

Would that be a fawn distress call?
