Trail Cam Advice

I've never used a cam but I'm thinking about getting one but have a few questions first.. Whats a good camera that doesnt have a huge price tag but takes good quility pics..probably under $125. Also are they easy to set up and get the pics off? Do you just use a SD card? Whats the best area to put one? Open country or anywhere? And do you put food or anything out? Im just trying to get some pics of elk..Going to try to put one out in the next few days! Any help and info would be awesome! Thanks

I would look for any of the name brand camera's that go on sale in yer price range. There are many fine cameras out there. Prices have really came down in the last few years. I have a Moultre I-40 that is 5 years ole and still kick'un. I don't like a visible light flash camera as it is a give away at night (to both animals and humans!). That's one of the reasons I went with the camera I have. It's flash is IR.

Whatever camera you get, .... GET A BEAR BOX!!!!!!! Not only does it stop the curious bear from mess'un wid' yer camera, it keeps the honest human .......... well, Honest! I lag bolt mine to a tree and pad lock it.

I set up on game trails WAY off the beat'un path on public land and have been lucky. Never had the camera messed with and it's out 5 months a year. In fact in 5yrs I have only 1 pic of a human. I also put out mineral lick blocks in front of the camera. Key to remember to long camera ownership: Don't put it out where humans go!!!

When I check on my camera I bring along an extra SD card and just swap them out. Only takes a few minutes. Then when I get back to camp I pop the card in my (regular) camera to view. Even on the Game camera's highest resolutuion sett'un the SD card (2gb) will hold over 2200 pic's.

Thanks guys. I ended up getting 2 and tested them at home and where i set it up. I had some apples and a mineral rock on one of them and went to check it yesterday, about a week later and no pictures were takin. Sign everywhere though, apples eatin and rock was still wet. The only pictures on it were me when I set it up and me when I walked past it to check it? That ever happen to you guys? Any advice on that? Thanks!
