Can you adjust the saftey on a Remington 700?

I just got a Remington Model 700 Mt. Rifle in a .270 Win. and the saftey on it is hard to get off safe, almost like its sticking or somthin. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to adjust that somehow? Thanks.

I would pull it out and take a look at it, if you feel comfortable doing it.  If it looks like there is a bur or scratching on it, then it is hanging up on something.  Not knowing your experience level, i would recommend taking it to a gunsmith to repair.  Should be easy and inexpensive.

If you do not see any wear, then I would just click it on and off about 500 times while watching tv and see if it improves.  Take this advice with a grain of salt, since I am in no wayu a gunsmith, but it is what I would do.

yes it can be adjusted. no it is not adjustable.

I had mine "hang up" on me a few years back.     I bought a stainless Rem with laminated stock, you know an "all weather" gun.  While on a hunt in a spike camp for 4 days with rain every day, I noticed my gun wouldn't come off safety. I had to hit the safety with the but end of my knife to get it off, unloaded of course. The rest of the hunt I hunted with the bolt up.  When I took it apart at the end of the year there was a little clip that was blued not stainless, this clip was rusted and was causing it to "hang up"  I took the clip off and scrubbed it good with hoppes and steel wool, until I wore the blue off.  The safety works great now but I don't trust it in rainy weather anymore as it will rust up for sure.  I know how to fix it in the field but would be scared of taking the stock off without re-sighting in.

i had it apart the other day while i lightened the trigger pull, i oiled it up pretty good but didnt seem to help......and everything looked normal there....so idk

you will probably find someone who will tell you different, but I never oil them, to afraid of them gumming up.  That's not why mine rusted up though as I had not had the stock off since I bought it that year so I am sure that it still had factory oil on it.

you can oil them, but if you don't keep it clean and reoiled it will eventually gum up, sub zero temps are a great place to be oil free as well.
