Grizzly or black bear???
« on: September 27, 2012, 07:10:05 PM »
Large brown bear spotted at close range chasing a black bear.  Weight estimated at 600lbs by someone familiar with large bears.  This is the paw print.  What ya think?

Grizz, way too big for a black bear. Plus, the WDFW has spotted grizz near Mudmans place in Ferry County.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks that maybe the claw marks are extended way out, like they would be on a griz. Cool photo...would have been awesome to see a griz chase a blackie.

I would lean toward a grizz.  I will post a photo soon of a bear I was hunting last week.  I was a nice print in soft powdery  soil.  No toe nail marks for sure and mine was from my finger tips to wrist.  It looks from the photo I see nails which generally indicates a grizzly print.  (another reason to always carry spray/heavy firepower even out scouting.  Thanks for sharing

Ya we think grizz.  Property borders nat. forest and the ridge bear seems to like has no roads anymore and nobody seems to go there as it is pretty steep.  At the bottom of it theres a deer carcass every hundred yards.  Poop with bone fragments as well.  Bear has been spotted here around july thru sept. then seems to move on.

  Absolutely, the griz have claws that arc out a great deal where the black bear are relatively straight / slightly moon shaped.  I would say griz from what is apparent in the photo.
