What arrow and broadhead should I switch too?
« on: September 28, 2012, 03:04:56 PM »
Okay heres the deal, I am not real impressed with the setup I have been using after seeing others arrow flight. Im shooting extreme z7 at 70lbs and 28inch draw. My arrow choice has been standard fletch beman ics hunter 340.  Muzzy or thunderhead 100grain heads.  QAD rest.  Arrows weigh 420ish at current length.  Arrow speed is around 280fps. I shoot well target but not so well with broadheads and not very tight past 50yards.  I just think I can do better.  I have been thinking shuttle 100grain and blazer vanes?  I have noticed if I shoot 85g thunderheads I get much better groups at 40yards plus.  I practice out to 80y hoping not to shoot past 60 ever. Any thoughts would be great, Radsav chime in!!
MAGA!  Again..

I don't think the arrows will make a big difference since the ones you have are correctly spined for you draw weight.   I would recommend the Shuttle Ts or Slick Tricks for broadheads.  The vanes wont make much of a difference either.  I shoot the Fusion vanes 3inch which fly nicely.

Cant believe it took this long for you to chime in with the wasps... :chuckle:
If you are alone are you not then all by yourself?  :dunno:
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

For me it's Easton nano n-fused with Blazer canes and a 100 grain Steel Force Sabertooth broadheads. The deer I shot a week and a half ago didn't go 20 yr :twocents:ds. I could literally see the blood pouring out as she was running away. Made a huge hole.  :twocents:

I'd rather put a killin' on them than a hurtin'  :dunno:  But maybe that's just me  :chuckle:

Going to take me a while to write down what I'm thinking.  Best I wait until after fixing some vittles.  Later tonight I promise.

Carbon arrow is what I choose.

Shuttle-T lock is a great broadhead.   The tip is designed to push the hide in to a point where th end start to cut.  What happends is similar to cuping you hand.  As the ends of the broadhead starts to cut it laces the wound channel more then what the blade has.  I have killed four bulls with those broadheads and they all died pretty quickly with easy to follow blood trails.

I have carbon express with muzzy mx3's...put a decent whole in a doe I shot here in MN.  It was a gut shot but still died.  I wish Washington would go to mechanical some day.  Saw what Grim Reapers did hands on here.  Huge hole put mine to shame.  Here is the link with pictures of what the mechanicals did and one of mine. http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,102231.15.html

If anyone watched the sportsmens channel last weekend you would of seen what happened with those mechanicals ,,,,2 shows in a row where the deer were lost ... :bash: :bash: :bash: One was hit in the shoulder and left a huge hole but never recovered and the second was hit high above the lungs and again a huge hole and not recovered  :dunno: and both were shot from a tree stand ...and the best part for me was they showed trailcam pictures of the bucks after the season was over and went on to say the deer lived ...O.K but the holes just heeled up and no marks of being hit were found ...YEAH RIGHT  :yike: :o
