corn fed scrapper down
«
on:
September 28, 2012, 05:52:17 PM »
I went out yesterday to check out a new field that was just chopped for the next mornings hunt, sitting in a good spot ranging things, looked down to put away range finder, look back up and a black blob at the end of the field moving along slowly!! Im thinking to myself, no way, only been there 10 minutes tops...
I know that end of the field was 400yds on the range finder, so I dial my Lupy CDS to 400, put a bead on him and make noise so he stops, looks my way, and I touch one off the tikka 7mag shooting a 140gr Barnes TTSX load of mine. I see no movement, Im like, crap, he ran off! I look through the scope and its on the ground shaking, I rack another just incase, but it wasnt needed, he was done!
Headshot basically, didnt ruin any meat, he didnt feel any pain, and he died in his tracks without moving 1'!
I have terrible luck, so you can imagine how stoked I was, and still am! His hide is thin on his back unfortunately, but I have other options to preserve him.
Eating the tenderloins for dinner tonight!
He bled alot, had a bunch of scars on his head too.

Congrats look like a nice sized bear. He does look a little thin? Maybe it is just the pic. Did he have much fat on him?

Yeah he was loading up for some winter stores. I would have thought he might of had a little more in a good area like that but it does look like he has some.
Congrats again.

Nice job bleeding him out! Anyone familiar with the county knows right where that is.
Did you weigh him?

Nice bear! I bet the farmers are glad you got him, those bears have ruined a lot of corn this year
