I hate to say it, but, it's a coyote. Doesn't have the characteristics of a wolf. Just my opinion, but the picture looks like a coyote. Sorry. I've seen wolves in real life.

It doesn't really have a long narrow snout  :dunno: What about the fluffy black one  :chuckle:

The fluffy black one just looks weird, I can't see it whatsoever other than a black fur ball. Not very wolf looking though. The grey one looks very much like a yote. Neither of them look big enough to be a wolf when compared to the size of the calf, but again the pictures make it really hard to see much. I do believe the OP that he saw something that wasn't a coyote.

Most wolves stand with a level back. Most coyotes stand taller at the front shoulder.
Look at your pictures again and tell us what you think .

I hunted a black coyote for two years here in the Wenas.  Almost got him a couple times.  One smart bugger.  That being said, I now need to go read the last 3 pages and see what I am talking about.

Hybrids or crosses or ferals. Leaning towards coyote/dog cross.    Hard to say with that small of pic.  Not wolf.  At least not pure timberwolf.  Sorry.   Snout is wrong, size is wrong, legs are wrong, shoulders are wrong.   They'd have been dead in a heartbeat.   Glad you saved your calves.   (my opinion of course)

I have a photo of mine live somewhere.   Probably on my old computer.   Nice trophy bowhunter!   That would make a dandy rug.
