E.WA Quail, Chukar, Hun Opener
« on: October 02, 2012, 03:15:50 PM »
Anyone have any plans for the Quail, Chukar, Hun Opener this coming weekend (October 6th & 7th)? It's an easy one to skip/forget prior to the Deer and Waterfowl Openers.

Me?...I'll be out somewhere on that Sunday with the Springer. I have to work on Opening Day.

Going to be a depressing year for us in 2012.  The little girl is just getting too arthitic to chase anything but flat land pheasant.  She knows it is time to chase birds, but a half hour walk just busts her up too much.  Maybe a quick quail hunt late in the year but that will be about it for us :'(

I just found a huge covey of chukar.  Are they called a covey?  There were probably 60 in the group.  This is in an area where I usually see ten a year at most.  Now I am excited.  Probably won't be able ot hunt until Monday though.

Saw lots of huns while muzzleloading for mulies. Didn't bag one, so I'll be out again this weekend.  Hope to get back over there for the birds later.

The only birds I've gone after where ones I can flush when I walk, or grouse. What's the better bird to go after if someone has never hunted over a dog before

Huns.  They offer the best chance of recovery, other than grouse that is.
