Food Cart in the hills

I have a friend who is thinking if setting up a food cart/truck (has all the certs) at the bottom of the hill for the modern season and sell hotdogs,  hamburgers,soup,  baked potatoes and the like to passerby hunters.  I have suggested this as a bad idea but he has pleaded for me to ask your folks thoughts on this.  Well, let em fly..

Thats an awesome idea however,  When gas is 4.?? per gallon, then running a truck to different areas would cut into profits.  Say you were to set up in ? Bumping?  you would get some business sure, but if I'm planning on running to Clifdell  to get a Mt Dew and hotdog, I'm probably taking a break from the action instead of searching for food. Pplus not all hunters will be able to pass by the truck "if" they come outta the hills for a break. I like to check campsite for problems if I take the afternoon off.  Just ideas.  But I hunt in odd places anyway.   Put the food truck on Chinnok pass or on the outskirts of the park??  get tourists plus hunters??  just my lowly opinion.

Great idea, but step it up a notch and don't just park in one spot. Drive around the roads with a giant ass speaker blaring out the "Camptown lady" music....

I would think the west side would be better for this idea... Most people in the hill oon the east have a camp up there and aren't coming out much if at all.... I have seen a bunch of guys on the west drive to and from their hunting places every day... You'd be way better off with bikini coffee anywhere!!!

I let him know about the bikinin thing and he said "man, I'm serious.."  I replied "so are we".  He's gonna talk to some girls from Central and see what happens.  "Tips or straight across price with no tip?" was his next question.  Gotta admire his buisness perspective.

There's a drive up espresso/burger joint in Curlew that's jam packed busy during mod fire season. It's not on wheels, but evidently hunters are willing to drive there to get some chow... mostly road hunters probably.

A bunch of guys running around with guns and you are gonna try and sell your weiner. Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

I think the bikini hut idea is great!  A father can not only take his son on his first hunting trip but can also take him to a smut hut

In reality your friend's idea will not work.  First off you have to generate enough dollars to make it pay.  Say an area road has 100 hunters.  At best maybe 10% will spend say 10 bucks.   After expenses you friend would be better off getting a part time job at McDonald's.

Also if he is on private lands then he had better have permission from the owner.  On state or Federal land he will need to have a vendor or similar permit.  Also Business license for the county he is operating in.  Don't forget health permit!  There is a lot of liability for you friend and the land owner so be prepared to buy some hefty insurance.  To run a legitimate business there is a lot we do not see.

I was talking to my son and dad about this very thing the last couple of years.  4-corners area in the 572/574 units, set up a coffee stand with 2 or 3 cute gals in skin tight camo shorts and crop tops, and I think you'd sell more coffee than you can imagine.

I have always though the 1900 road in Little Naches would be a good spot for a coffee shack. Hot coffee, coco, donuts, and some snacks for the guys heading in.
Many people camp along the Hwy and drive in to the area every day during hunting season.

i think your buddy has a good plan, just tell him if he is gonna set up for this dont limit himself to just huntn season, if heis lookn to make it pay there is still allot of select baseball tournements that go on that dont have snack bars so the parents are stuck runnin all over the place to get food, if he watches the websites for these tournements he would make a killn, especially memorial weekend, those tourneys are fricken huge, soccer tournements are big to...seriously if he has the time and wants to m,ake it work then these are the places to hit, he will also want to sell food that mamas think are good for their kids to, if he is gonna do the deer season, vail will be his best bet, i am sure they would make room for him at the game check at the "Y" and all those people that hunt up there drive into yelm and roy and the corner store for hot food.... good luck

Gas I think it would work. Just find a place where the road hunters are and they will come. If it is a place with limited access and they have to come out the same way the better. If they were going to go to town anyways I am willing to bet that they would stop. If it was good and didn't move I think the word would spread and he could possibly get more business, but it would only be a weekend deal. Make sure he doesn't set up in an area where all these hunt-wa guys go in and camp and spend the whole day on foot out in the woods because he wouldn't get no business.

 I'd lay odds that some gov agency would put the kibosh to it one way or another; either with right of way, permits, or something to do with health cards and water or restrooms. I've often thought that would make a ton of money up in my hills but it won't float.

I think it's a great idea. Tons of money to be made! I would offer breakfast too. I bet you'd sell a lot of egg/ham or egg/sausage muffins.

Wait till modern elk season and hit the winston, or just above cougar! Those spots become elk nation! So many camps, trucks, quads, idiots I think a portable Mcdonalds are a roach coach would rake it in! And yes the 4 corners area there outside of Trout Lake gets busy as well! He should put out little portable tables and umbrellas too, maybe a drive-in for quads, lol.

OH IDK, i see a few westsiders thinkn it a great plan, i can bet that he would make more coin on the not so wetside than the eastside, when i was in the service the gut truck was the way to go instead of the chow hall, except when we were broke from drinkn then we ate in the chow hall, cause it was free, i know i would swin g by this guys food truck if i was out and about, it would be even better if he could have a big cook top and make fresh fried potatoes and bacon egs, and sausage with some peppers and onions and some fresh grated cheese over nice and melted or a big breakfast burrito like the ones at cc,s grill in orting....if you aint had one and you ever go through orting ya goota stop and get one, you wont be disapointed.....

Food cart? Maybe not a great idea but like others have said, coffee shop. Yes. Maybe have a few items like breakfast burritos, donuts, and other assorted breakfast items.

When I was on state mob fires there were usually a couple of people who set up a mobile coffee stands, and they made bank! Lots of people are missing there Starbucks or Dutch Brothers.
