All depends how far in I am planning from being from the rig. I normally pack very light.  But as I got a bit older I plan what I take in is determined by where I am going in. If I am going in 3 hard steep miles or 5 easier ones I will now wear my pack frame and put my day pack in it. when I get to the area I'm hunting I ditch the frame and put on the day pack. 9 out of 10 times it was a waste to do this. But it really didn't weigh more than about 2 pounds to do it. Now on the one out of ten times I shoot something I can get two quarters, the straps, and the head out in the pack. Then I only have to go back once instead of two more times if I wasn't prepared. And the places I usually hunt it is pretty much all uphill going in. So it's not that big of a deal packing the light frame in, but it is still a heck of a lot of work packing meat out even if it is down hill on the way out!

But for the stuff in my pack for a day. Water, trail mix, TP!, knife, 5 extra rounds, small knife sharpener, a couple of candy bars, quarter roll of orange flagging tape (very important, finding your way back to a deer is much easier with this than trying to figure out the gps! at least for me!)  small spotting scope and tripod. Rangefinder is in my front shirt pocket, and binos are strapped on with that cool strap, can't remember what that's called. I have a small saw for cutting bone on my belt. Used to take a gps and camera. All that's on the iphone now. Get the right app and you don't need service to use it.

And do not forget to have a six pack of beer in the truck. Once you manage to get that deer packed out that is the best tasting beer there is!

Edit: Don't forget the first aid kit. The last little bit of a roll of duct tape will work just fine here.

What Gps app is that?
