Need a place to go shoot on Mon/Tues- Westside
« on: October 06, 2012, 03:34:44 PM »
Taking delivery of my new .338 Savage Hog Hunter on Monday and my normal range is closed on M/T so I am in need of a place to shoot.  I am located in Lacey so anything within an hour would be great. Doesn't have to be a range, would love to go on private land. If anyone has a place or knows of a good place, please message me.  Thanks in advance!

I'm looking too!  I'm up near Gig Harbor and heard of a local range but they're $10 bucks to shoot I think and I HATE paying to shoot, it's like blaspheme!  LOL

Got a 45/70 pushing 300 grains at 2000 to 2050 per sec. and I can't wait to see how nicely it hurts to shoot it :)

Gravel pit Capitol forest, had a lot of people there last evening when I drove by. Need your own bench and target stand or what ya got. Must walk in past gate maybe a couple hundred feet and may need Pass on rig. Waddell creek rd SW and Sherman valley Rd N 46-56-45 W 123-04-05 and 500 ft south on Waddell creek rd.

This.  I need to shoot a rifle now and would pay $20 to do so.

Evergreen is my normal range. Discount for military. Double J could go shoot today but they are closed the day i get my rifle. Rich, the Range safety, always runs a great range out there and is very helpful at not only getting you on a lane but helping with any question you may have about shooting in general.

I don't know where ANY of those places are.  I guess I could drive south to Mason Lake area then hike 1/2 mile to my normal spot, but I'd be alone and there would be nobody to applaud my excellent marksmanship.

So I GOTTA take a partner when I go sight in this pig and the 270 my pop is going to shoot.

E-mail me or PM me if This afternoon is cool.  Sometime before 5 and after 3 if there's a place close to Gig Harbor or Tacoma or Port Orch that we can shoot 100-200 yards.

Here is a map of most all of the ranges and established outdoor places to shoot at :  http://www.waguns.org/rangemap.html

I would recommend Paul Bunyan or Tacoma Sportsman Club.  Not sure of non-member fees or if you need to go with a member or not, but they are both nice ranges and pretty close to you.

Keep in mind that there is a target shooting ban on all DNR and WDFW land at the moment.  Not giving you a hard time, just don't want to see someone get in trouble. If you go into the woods to shoot just make sure it is an established range.

Yep, I'm hoping that one of the two places I contemplate going is owned by someone other than the state.

Nobody else has the kind of range I need for this 270 nor this 45/70.

What do they mean about "established range"?  I know tons of people are still shooting up at the gravel pit on Forest Service Road 70 past Greenwater on 410 (which is DNR land).

And I'll be going to Kitsap rifle & gun cause it's the ONLY place not frekkin state land that I can shoot 200 yards.  :(

Last I went, TSC (50, 100, 200) was $10 and no membership required.  Paul Bunyan (50, 100, 180 yard gong)) typically has specific rifle sight-in days for non-members, and it was about $5-10 per gun, a few years back.

waddel creek is a good place that is free, evergreen even better for a pay site only 100 yd range. couple places that are ok in capital forest but you need to know where to go and ricochet possible.

Did teh Kitsap club thing for $15 bucks.  Rang the 200 yard gong with every shot but one, and kept the 100 and 150 yard targets within 1.5 inches of the Bull with all 4 shots from each of the 45/70 the Rem 700 -'06 and the 270.

Things are spot on, now I can't wait to see me a buck on opening morning!

Paul Bunyan Rifle and Sportsman's Club does have a hunter sight-in program, but I believe it is now over for this season.  Tonight was the last night.
http://www.pbrsc.org/index_files/Page562.htm

I have been to the Waddle Creek gravel pit, south of Olympia several times.  There aren't any yard markers, you would have to bring your own bench and your own target holders.  You're probably going to have to deal with a bunch of idiots who aren't paying attention to called ceasefires or people downrange  >:(, BUT it is a place to shoot and it won't cost you anything.  The earlier the better to avoid the undesirables.  You will need a Discover pass to park at the gravel pit since it is DNR land.
I hate shooting there...  but that's where my co-workers decide to shoot every month.
Having a membership at Paul Bunyan is one of the best investments I have made, and I shoot regularly.
