meat locker near Loomis
« on: October 07, 2012, 10:27:25 AM »
Long time stalker and first time poster.. Well, my two 15 y/o boys were lucky enough to draw doe tags for their first deer hunt in the Sinlahekin this year. I've always hunted the area late in the year by myself and never had to consider the possibility of storing one animal while trying for another. Any help would be appreciated.

I think the night time temps are cold enough now ( last 4 nights at my place 21-24 degrees) if that is the case where you are hunting , hang your deer in the shade and it will cool down real well over night then put a sleeping bag over it in the day time. In wrap again at night. I have done this many times over the years with day time temps in the 60's. never had any meat go bad. I also stick a thermometer through the bag into the ham to monitor temps.

"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?

Haven't heard of that before. Nice trick!

That sounds like a good trick to me. I hadn't thought of wrapping the quarters during the day to keep them cool. With any luck the boys will tag out quick and i can go chase blacktails.

The store at the north end of Conconully has a cooler, and the guy will go out of his way to make sure you get your deer in there.  That's only 15 minutes from the Sinlahekin mainline rd.
