First Cat and it looks like a huge one!!!
« on: October 16, 2012, 02:10:12 PM »
After 3 years of trail cams I have been surprised I have never caught a cat on cam.  Well pulled the camera today and finally a cat picture.

What do you think....he looks huge to me.  I will post the pic of the cat and then a few deer for comparison.

almost looks like a nice big healthy female to me, every big tom i have ever treed had a more blocky head but i guess it could just be a big young tom, either way thats a nice cat for sure, maybe you will get lucky and conect on that cat during the deer season, i know the deer would appreciate it... :twocents:

Got some "mitts" on him that is for sure. I have no idea how to judge a cat.

yeah, neither do I (no how to judge a cat).  I have never seen one in the wild before.  Crazy thing about today is (story):

I kept my 3 yo son home from daycare today so he could go hike with me (ride on my back while I hike) to get the cams out of the woods.  We arrive to this cam and as I am packing things up I hear a branch break.  I stop and look in the direction and see nothing.  It is windy so I don't think to much of it.  As I continue to pack things up I hear another branch break even closer.   Mind you we are making all kinds of noise and most animals should have vacated by now.  After this second break the hair on the back of my neck litterally is standing up.  My 6th sense says something is not right.   It is raining so my side arm is holstered concealed.  I immediately re holster my sidearm to the outside on my packs waist belt.  I now have my head on a swivel thinking this could be a bear.  I finish packing up and we hike out without incident.  Wonder, could it have been a big kitty watching us??

Could have been the cat but not likely. You wouldn't have heard a cat.

yeah, my initial thought was a bear.  I would have expected a bear to blow out of there with the amount of noise though....who knows.  I never thought cat till I got home and found the cat picture.

I always get the willies when searching for an animal shot at last shooting light. I cant shake the thought of a cougar stalking me.
