Plaque mount suggestions ??
«
on:
October 09, 2012, 10:33:06 PM »
I have one of the bulls you have seen on here soaking in a washtub and the hunter has asked me to do a european skull mount and I already know how to get that done, what I am looking for are suggestions on mounting it on a unique type plaque or pedistal thingy. It must be on the wall so no tabletop suggestions.......Basically I'd like some ideas on what to mount it to that is special and fairly simple as to not take away from the rack but not a run of the mill boring plaque either.
I'd like to see some pics of what some of you have done to get an idea on where to go with this, you could even post links to threads on here I may have missed !!
Thank You !!
Here is a pic so you know approximately what size it is.

Here is what I had built for my Euro elk mount.
Should be getting it this week from a guy back east. Thing to know with this one is the angle of the plaque.. based on the whale tails of the bull you might not be able to tip it that far.

I went with an arrowhead style plaque similar to MDGrand's for my 2012 Valles Caldera bull. But, it mounts flat to the wall and the Taxi had to tilt skull forward a little to get the tails to clear the wall. Taxi just called and said it's done. I think he ordered it from the Van Dykes catalog. If interested, I'll find out and post pic this weekend.

I've been using skull hookers lately. They are easy and look sweet to me, not real pretty though. If I knew someone who could make me the "hooker" part, and I could make the rest out of wood to fancy it up a bit, it would be really cool. Hint hint.

My last deer plaque was the state of Washington. I just drew the shape onto a large piece of pine and cut it out with a jig saw. No pictures but it turned out very nice.

Thanks for the suggestions folks, Here is what I ended up doing, I had this piece of old cedar laying around and it had moss growing on it so I just left it on there. The guy was happy with it so its all good !!

I mounted a BT skull on one like MDG but mounts flat like ET, but what I did was lightly torch it with propane for a burnt look & about 5 coats of shellac.
