Often I am asked if my hunt was successful after a weekend in the woods. Typically this question is well-intentioned but it always gets me thinking...

The question they really want to know and should be asking is: did you harvest anything?

I believe every hunt that leads you into the woods and back to the truck safely is a success. Every time you get to wonder off with your pals, and share memories with them is a success. I feel extremely blessed to have 2 working legs, 2 working eyes, 2 working arms and 1/2 a working brain. I feel extremely blessed to have nice hunting gear that keeps me warm/dry and a rifle that is true. But what I hold in highest esteem is the opportunity to explore God's mighty creation and recalibrate after a year behind a computer.

With the mod season opener right around the corner, I encourage you all to adjust your thinking if it needs adjustment. Don't measure success by a buck down or inches of bone; measure it by the journey. Because at the end of the season, as you are enjoying your tag-soup, you will have plenty of successes to look back upon.
