Help on JBLM Waterfowl hunting
« on: October 11, 2012, 02:08:44 PM »
I just finished registering my shotgun and filling out paperwork to hunt on JBLM for waterfowl and Archery deer. It took me for ever and a day to figure out the map and what 'TA' meant! Now that I have that figured out, I need a little help or direction on where to hunt waterfowl on Base. My goal is to take my boys out to do a little jump shooting and to find water/marsh=ducks closer to home. From what I can figure out is I can only take 1 non hunter (1 of my sons) at a time, which is fine as I'll need to figure it out! My buddy is the one with the dogs so I'll be doing my own retrieving! So, I am in need of some direction on where to go or I wouldn't mind going out with another HuntWa member to get to know and the area on base!

My plans so far is to hunt the Delta the weekend of 20-21st. I'm open after that!

go to marsh lake on the east gate rd that brings you out to roy, i think its open to everyone now but not sure, the lake out on range rd has some good marshland to the south end i believe but that was along time ago, say 92 when i was in the army
my grandpa always said "if it aint broke dont fix it"

They sell maps that show where all the water is or google earth works...also make sure ur kids are registered as well, even if they aren't hunting they still have to be registered as non hunters

Yeah I'll need to look into getting the boys signed up, thanks for that tip! I purchased their map and it took me a while to figure it out and I think I might understand it now! I need to figure out calling and all the codes, should understand it after the first time around. I will diffinetly will check out the map with google earth to see the terrain, marshy/grassy areas I'll see what I can come up with. Thanks!

Check the schedule weekly to see what areas are open and when, Once you know what is open then start looking at teh map and see where the lakes, swamps, and marshes are.
There are many spread throughout the TA's.

Google earth does wonders

There is also some marshes and a decent lake on the north Fort, Lake Squalichew, but if you go there  you will need a visitors pass to get on teh north fort but cant get the pass unless you are signed in to hunt the area.

Gasman and i did a lot of driving around and finding spots out there to hunt.  like he said, check the schedule...sign in and hunt the am..then sign out, sign into another area and just go recon it.  they have places all the way out to dupont and yelm to hunt on...lots of kewl spots you will find.  and possibly some other Hunt WA guys...lol   :IBCOOL:

I have been trying to figure out where to register as well, could you tell me which building you register at? Also, how was your Delta hunt?

Prolly doesnt apply to you but if the sun comes up and you see you re sitting on someone elses setup then pack up and move. Dont skybust and ruin someone elses day. For the record we cleaned up even though someone did their hardest to ruin our hunt.

I here you there, We had some one paddle Right Through our dekes! He apologized and told us he wanted to set up 50 yards to our north and was going to be on the other side of the island marsh, YEAH RIGHT! He was right on top of us and I will never allow that to happen again!

gotta love it...don't forget the guy who's across the reed island from you facing the same direction as you who decides it's best to turn around and shoot at the birds turning around towards your decoys.
 :bdid:

and when he does  :yike:...what do you thing falls right on top of you?

:bash: :bash: :bash: he got a few choice words from me...lol  and it's not like the marsh isn't a mile long...lol
